Swindon Railway Station is one of the most strategically important stations in the whole of the British Rail network. Along with the new bus terminal it allows the general public to escape probably the worst town in the country. 'Nuff said......
Good station,bright,well maintained and clean. Plenty of platform and Concorse staff available if required. The ticket staff are friendly and knowledgeable,have no issues finding you the most economical fare for your destination.
Mostly travel across the UK using public transport as I don’t drive. Had a rail replacement bus - fantastic service from the steward. Never caught his name, but all of them were fantastic in terms of service & making sure all travellers were going to the right places. Big ups to the really really tall guy with the black beard tho, he was ace!
Fairly typical of train stations across the UK, functional but without any particular standout features. What you should be prepared for, especially during peak hours, are the crowded trains bound for London. The high demand can result in packed train carriages, sometimes even spilling into the aisles.
From the outside the station is not welcoming. It looks like an abandoned office building rather than a railway station. It could do with a facelift. Swindon has a rich railway history, it's a shame that the station doesn't reflect this.nnThere are regular services across South Wales, the South West and London. Services can be very busy at most times of the day.nnThere are benches, although not enough for the amount of people who use this station. There are bins and information screens on all platforms. There is also a WHSmith after the ticket barrier in case you want any expensive food while waiting for your train.nnThe station does have step free access to all platforms via a lift. It has audible announcements and tactile markings. There are staff available throughout the day for passenger assistance.
