Incredible old establishment with great choice of seafood. Ordered the fish pie and sticky toffee pudding which were great. There's always a good atmosphere in Sweetings so it's worth a visit.Food: 5/5
Best seafood lunch in the City. The fish selections are fresh and great. It will satisfy any fish lovers. The alcohol selection is also interesting. They have cocktails served in the tin cup, which is interesting. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The interior is reminiscent of an old English restaurant. It sort of feels like traveling back in time by 120 years to get a nice fish steak served with ale.
Sweeting's has been on my list for some time and it did not disappoint! Dining room is steeped in history, and whilst a little tight, was perfectly comfortable. Menu is straight forward and to the point - high quality seafood prepared perfectly and without fuss. Everything was delicious and generously portioned. Excellent wine list. Special thanks to Veronica who took great care of us, her menu recommendations were spot on.
Old school, but in the best way. No other way to describe it. Mostly counter seating, super fresh seafood. Execution is better than most. Had the smoked eel and skate w black butter.Food: 4/5
Stopped in for a weekday lunch and to get out of the rain. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. This place gets incredibly loud at lunch, it's hard to hear. The sticky toffee pudding was the best I have had in London. The fish pie was good but a bit too salty for my preference.Food: 3/5
This establishment is kind of legendary for all the right reasons. It is my first time here, mainly because is only open for lunch and it does not take reservations. However, it does not need to, as the place is constantly packed by either gentlemen of a bygone era, or city boys discussing deals. The food is classic, old school, cooked divinely, and the service is charming, fast and courteous without being too facetious. I had 6 oysters from Maldon, the fried whitebait, the scallop and bacon, the halibut with mustard sauce, chips and the Bakewell tart with chantilly cream. All if it was faultless, the fried fish was light, denoting a certain expertise in frying, the tartare sauce was divine, as was the scallop and bacon. The halibut was served with a delicate mustard sauce that had the subtle flavour of a light beurre blanc. The chips were also incredible, and the Bakewell tart was one of the best Bakewell tarts I have ever had in Uk I also went to Bakewell and this was better than the one made in Bakewell!. All in all a memorable experience
I am sorry but no: fourth time in three years and I am yet to sample a fish they serve that has any taste. Last week it was the turbot. Please manage your expectations when you go there: great atmosphere but you are not going there for the quality of the cooking.Food: 1/5
So much more than City gents having some fish. A rightfully venerated London institution with great fish and great people serving it. There's nowhere better for lunch in the City particularly if it's accompanied by a pint of Black Velvet.Food: 5/5
Great place. Tricky to explain the atmosphere. Unique dining with rustic English vibe. Food is incredible. Staff super helpful and seating can be varied depending on where you sit. Couldn’t recommend moreFood: 5/5
I completely understand why this place has been open for so long. It’s every seafood lovers dream. We were recommended this place by a local and I’m so glad we took his advice. We came during a very busy lunchtime. Seating didn’t take too long. My roommate and i enjoyed many dishes here and very much over indulged on the delicious food. We had eel, the pot pie, and the lobster mash. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the eel. It was some of the best eel I’ve ever had in my life. The lobster mash was full of flavor and paired well with the wine the server had suggested. My roommate was extremely satisfied with the well made pot pie. Def have a look at this gem!
