After looking after my Dad at home, with my Mum for 8-10 months as per his wishes, we very reluctantly took the palliative / hospice bed there. We could not administer the palliative drugs, despite us being nurses.nWe simply wanted to spend as much time as possible with him, without having to be nurses or carers.nDad was admitted on a Friday.nMy Mum & I did not leave his side.nnLater on that evening, we left. Strict instructions were given that the staff, that stipulated that any change at all, even his breathing etc, they must call us. We wanted to be with him.nnMy Mum was told to go home & reassured that we would be called.nnAfter hearing nothing between 10pm that night, my Mum called at 6am & was fobbed off saying they would call her to update after handover at 7am.nnWe then received a call to say he had passed ALONE.nnUpon arrival, only 1 member of staff showed any compassion.nnIt was VERY clear at that point that they had ignored our wishes.nnBeing ex nurses & myself ex police & social care, we were very aware of what SHOULD have happened.nnOne of my Dad’s grand children was driving from Birmingham to see him, we were told that was not possible as they needed to vacate his room.nnWhen I arranged for Mum & my eldest to be there when Dad left with the fantastic funeral directors, they were told to get off the premises due to Covid despite all being negative,nThey were told to go to the road outside to see him off.nnLater when I had the strength to challenge, I got all of Dad’s records & analysed the notes from Summerville.nnThe records were false. He was NOT checked when he should have been, bearing in mind it was his last 24 hours of life. I found multiple errors in his care, where he was “checked” at certain times, with no response or issues re comfort & obviously on palliative meds, he was not present.nnOn seeing my Dad passed, the palliative drug system was still functioning & hadn’t been removed from his body. Apparently because it had to be left in place until the Dr pronounced him dead,nnOn investigation by myself, it was VERY obvious that he had been dead longer than we were told, due to the body temperature, rigomortis.nnPlease DO NOT send your loved ones to this despicable place.nnDISGUSTING
Fabulous home. One of the best activity coordinators around. Great staff and a lovely homely vibe.
