Visited for an underground tour with bath college I had a great time and very informative I am really interested in all types of mines and quarries and the history of them and how they are worked. It was great to be shown the beds of the bath stone and the difference in them and what they are each used for and being shown some of the machinery being demonstrated for us. It was so good to be able to have the opportunity to go down the mine and see for myself instead of looking through books or pictures on line.
Had an amazing tour of the Bath stone group mine with ‘Conservation of Historic Buildings’ MSc students from the University of Bath. It was fascinating to see how the stone was extracted, and the drilling and cutting machines in operation. Matthew Hawker showed us around and explained the process in detail answering a range of questions. Thankyou to Matthew and all his colleagues at the mine for making the visit a truly enjoyable and memorable experience.
