A hidden gem just minutes from Bristol City centre! There are some stunning walks here all year round, depending on the time of year it can be a bit wet, muddy and slippery so I’d recommend some sturdy footwear! It can get a bit noisy at times because of the M32 which runs alongside the estate but you soon get used to it I grew up nearby and it’s still very enjoyable and one of the nicest estates in Bristol in my opinion. It's an easy five minute downhill walk from Snuff Mills too which is an added bonus and if you’ve got any energy left! The grounds of the estate are quite vast with 2 different walks signposted. There is a fishing lake which you can also walk around but there are often a number of keen fishermen who will disapprove of you wandering around the lake! Everything is well kept and there are plenty of paths to follow but not many places to stop and take a rest benches etc The views from the monument of the top of the estate are fabulous and well worth the walk up. Unfortunately due to the nature of the estate is isn’t suitable for wheelchair users of people with mobility issues. After a long walk I would recommend charging your batteries back up in the only local pub nearby which is the Masons Arms, it is Children and dog friendly and also provides some fantastic pub grub and a great selection of hot and cold drinks.
There are some amazing walks here and with appropriate footwear it's lovely all times of year. Bit noisy because of the M32, which is a shame, but it's still very enjoyable and one of the nicest estates in Bristol in my opinion. It's an easy five minute walk from Snuff Mills too which is a nice bonus
What can I say about this beauty of a park minutes away from home. It has astonishing views of the city centre depending where you stand it’s a good view around Purdown by the WW2 Gun/ shelter monuments. It is said to be haunted by the woods next to the Dower House although I’ve not experienced anything by the dower house. Yellow castle The lake fishers lake is a nice place to go to but please be quiet and respectful of fishermen. There are cattle around which move from field to field so be aware of that. It is enclosed and signs are there to keep dogs on leads in those areas. Please make sure your dog has good recall to be let off lead. Too many dog incidents in this park. Thank you.
Massive estate perfect for a walk with a dramatic Bristol landmark and 300+ year old wood. Water logged when visiting in February though but goats grazing on the grass up by Purdown so makes for a quirky afternoon walk out this time of the year!
Good for bikes if you like the challenge
Lovely walk in a very otherwise built up area. The little forest is lovely and you can walk through and get to snuff mills. There are various hills to climb if you wish. There is a wheelchair accessible path but very steep at one end. Lovely place to wall dogs and let kids get their energy out. There is a lake there too.
You forget that you're in a city as the nature looks so pretty and there is so much space. It feels more like a trip into the countryside. Perfect for exercising, walks, yoga, meditation, dog walks...
Fantastic view, good for hiking & running
Hidden gem minutes from city centre. The grounds are quite vast with 2 different walks signposted. There is a fishing lake which you can also walk around Everything seems well kept and there are plenty of paths to follow. We had a picnic on top the hill looking out over the grounds and Bristol. We took a blanket as there are no tables and just one bench.
Great place to take the family
