Memories are made of this. We had a tribal gathering where Isobel and I saw not just our great grandson for the first time, but granddaughters we had not seen in years. This celebration of all the generations was made perfect by the kindness and care that Jo, Phil and their team lavished on us. The food was wonderful, as ever. And the room they prepared so that all of us could sit around the same table made it very special indeed. If you’re planning a festive board, then the Stapleton Arms is the place to go.
We booked to watch the Euros and received a booking confirmation email. We asked to amend it but received a response saying all customers needed to be in by 6:30pm as it's going to be busy. However on arrival it turned out this wasn't true as there were tables booked for later than I'd booked. There also wasn't a table for us and clearly whoever works in the office had continued to take bookings even when there weren't tables available. Obviously they were safe in the office or probably left for the day, whilst the bar staff had to deal with the fall out of this. The bar staff said management had also taken bookings for standing space but not told customers it was a standing booking?! The two women behind the bar who I spoke to were unbelievably accommodating and managed to find a table and some chairs from other tables to ensure we weren't left without a booking. The one good thing about being told to turn up early was that this could be rectified as if I got there any later, I would have been left standing and it was incredibly busy. I felt sorry for them having to deal with management clearly overbooking and having zero empathy for their staff who had to deal with many angry customers who were in the same position as me. I'd visited here for a roast before and had really high praise for this place, however it's now been marred by seemingly greedy management. Well done to the bar staff but please be wary when booking tables for the football here.
I have lived in Finsbury Park for almost ten years, and this pub is the best. It hasn’t always been this way, but when I visited yesterday, I was overwhelmed by the great service and genuine care for everyone watching the match. The vibe embodies the true local spirit. Andy, who served me, showed the kind of class you would expect from a high-end restaurant. Speaking of which, the food is the best in N4! The chef is excellent . There are a lot of pubs in N4, but this one is nailing it.
We watched three of the England games at the Euros here, and tried to watch a fourth the QF but they'd closed half the pub off for a private event - fair enough I guess if they've got a lucrative booking, but seemed like a shame on such a significant day, and left us scrambling to find somewhere else! The atmosphere for big games is great, they have a good beer selection and the staff are friendly. We did encounter a few issues though, including booking a table for the semi-final then arriving to find that it had been 'lost in the system' somehow have seen other reviews complaining about the same thing. I also think they need to do something about the pressue on their beer taps - there were ridiculous waiting times at the bar on the night of the final because the taps were pouring so slowly, I swear they could have sold twice as much beer that night if they'd sorted it!
Visited for a birthday party. Pleased with range of beers and products available. Service was generally good and prompt and reasonably friendly. The venue itself is nice and spacious with high ceilings but doesn't really have an identity of its own and the generic music left playing in the background was bland and was not to our personal taste. Can't please everyone, I suppose.
Loved it!! Great meeting friends and watching the Cricket T20 World Cup match. Brandon was at the bar taking really good care of us. Highly recommend if you're in the area. Worth a visit.Service: 5/5
Unfortunatley this was how our chicken burger was served. Extremely dry bread and was difficult to chew the chicken. Asked for ketchup, but had to wait until we had almost finished our chips small portion to recieve it. Not just over priced but the food was of extremely bad quality. I know businesses are in hard times, but now a chef or service staff could think it was okay to service this is sad to see
Decent pub - nice friendly bar staff. Plenty of seats and not bad selection on tap. Back toilets are atrocious, but lots of quirky little touches elsewhere. Looks like a good spot to watch the football with various screens around and I noticed a large projector screen too.
Been there twice in last week. Manager working very hard. Rest of staff extremely lazy and no awareness of customers needs. Not too busy and you can wait 5 minutes to be served while staff slowly polish wine glasses as opposed to doing what should be done… put glass down, serve then go back to polishing. Many staff do not even say please or Thankyou. Early afternoon and staff play shocking house type music. They are soon going to become the mirror imagine of the shocking excuse of a pub over the road “the dairy”. It’s a shame as it isn’t rocket science. Non lazy and polite staff are all that is needed…. Sure the pay isn’t great but if you don’t want to put a half decent days work in don’t even take the job. Shocking shocking shocking bad attitude staff other than the manager.
Went with a pre-booked group for Sunday lunch. Roast beef was good but the veg were tired. Service was amazingly quick, perhaps because they had already prepared plates of food in expectation of a rush, which may explain the state of the veg. Beer was staggeringly expensive at about £6.50 a pint but this is a non-townie speaking. I guess it's not unusual for London. It's a big old traditional London pub with a friendly atmosphere. Toilets were a disgrace - and that's the Ladies which I had to use because the Gents was out of action. Not that it seems to matter these days.
