I love this place. Love, love, love. The two folks who run it are really friendly, their coffee is really good and changes occasionally, their cakes though. The cakes are where it's at. They have some they get in from elsewhere like croissants etc from the Haxby bakery but if you're going to S&R don't get those - get their babka buns in the morning if they still have any. They're like sweet bread rolls all twisted up with sugary syrup and they look like they'll be dry but they are so soft and squishy, tearing them apart is delightful. They're vegan too, and they have a huge range of vegan cakes, muffins, etc. They do sandwiches but I've not tried those because cake!
Fantastic cakes, great coffee, and lovely staff, our only regular cafe in York!
Let me tell you this is the best coffee around! After a month in Australia I was on the hunt for decent coffee and it is with this place, the cinnamon buns are to die for, and always fresh made cakes available, owners are so lovely and chatty, a real "we care about our customers" vibe! And they really do. Keep doing what you're doing ladies xx
Such a gem of a coffee shop! I lived just a stones throw away and came by several times a week. Delicious coffee and the two owners are incredibly nice. I was so sad when I moved away and I still miss the shop now : Will be back!
Such a beautiful and quirky café! Alot of thought, love and care has clearly gone into the inside decor and the window display. The cakes look and are!! incredibly tasty and the coffee is one of the best in town. Served by really friendly staff who are clearly loved by their community. Have recommended this to many a friend x
Oh, my goodness; what fare! The vegan cinnamon buns are wonderful. Biscoff rocky roads, and peanut butter with raspberry jam brownies rate very highly, too. Lovely, friendly service.
Great single origin coffees for both pourover and espresso provided by Origin Coffee. Cosy vibe and relaxed music with friendly service.
I was in the Bishopthorpe Road area and was looking for a place to grab coffee quickly. I saw this place had a couple of people queuing outside so thought the coffee must be decent. The two parties in front of me were served at the little table area where payment is made, they waited whilst they got their coffees and food. Then it came to being my turn.. I was greeted in a stand-off ish way, I’m guessing this was probably due to me dressing all in a tracksuit after the gym, combined with a face mask, but I’m speculating. My order was taken and instead of waiting where everyone else had for their order I was sent around the corner to wait, I definitely felt uncomfortable at this point and had a different experience to those served before me. Then when my coffee was passed to me through a side window, it was immediately closed once I had the coffee. No offer of sugar or a napkin and no thanks or have a nice day. Felt very awkward and judged, not a nice experience. Coffee was okay at best too.
Everything seems to homemade. Lovely cakes and scones plus lots of people queuing for coffee so I assume that's good too I'm allergic!. Happy and helpful staff. Perfect local business.
The perfect recipe - an amazing window display of delicious treats, with the best coffee on Bishopthorpe Road and a brilliant team who are ever so welcoming! Currently serving via a hatch for social distancing, this coffee house truly has been our favourite destination during lockdown and will be for many months to come. Highly recommended!
