A great meal in a great environment served by lovely people
Great food, in fact gorgeous food.. Great service, staff were great, helpful couldn't do enough for you. A really nice place, chilled environment. Well worth a visit. Thanks.
Visited on a cold winters night so the large log burner was most welcome.Inside spacious plenty of candle light interesting use of empty wine bottles.Large menu board on the wall with dining mainly at the back. The food you can see the menu on their website, but ideally choice size 7/8 starters , mains & desserts. Our dishes were well presented, hot and portion sizes good. As for flavour well not everyone's pallet is the same. Overall a place to definitely pay a visit, good food and service. A couple of things that we noted - the car park at the back is a little on the small size great brick wall though and the dessert menu we struggled to read probably says more about our poor eye site.!!!!!
I love the food and drink here..... fresh sea food amazing meat and all cooked to perfection. Always changing the menu to the season harvest and the wines and beers all compliment your meal. You'll never go wrong eating here, we have never had a bad experience, I strongly recommend.
This place is our favourite place to visit . It's such a hidden gem and it's a well hidden pub in a tiny village. The food is always exceptional here , the service is always good as well . Never had any problems in the years we have visited. I've recommended it to loads of my friends and I always come here for my birthday and family meals . They also do a supper night menu , I haven't tried it yet but it seems good value for money . Also Peroni on tap :
What happened!? Read the review from Phil Coultas. I completely agree, it's a hit and miss. We've been going to the Staff of Life for a few years now and it's been really great usually. Some of the best meals I've ever eaten have been from here Sunday Roast Beef and a few others. This time I went wasn't good, at all. The service was quick but not once were we asked of everything was okay. We both ordered the Duck Breast which we asked to be pink, but they came out grey, overcooked and tough, which was not pleasant at all. The potato croquettes was nice as was the veg, that's about it. The Waiting On staff seemed to be more interested in talking to each other and gossiping than checking up on customers. I don't know if this was just a miss rather than the usual hit but I doubt we'll be going back to find out any time soon. A shame as most of our experiences here are rather pleasant.
Food was great, it would be hard to fault it. The service however would be best described as glum. No effort to engage and always the underlying feeling from the waitress that the ordering of food and drinks was an irritation rather than the foundations of their business. Nice pint though. Well kept.
We dropped in for Sunday, lunch, most of the menu items were a bit pricier than other places. But seemed to be a fancier area. We had lamb and beef carvery quite fatty pieces, with just one slice each and 2 roast potatoes!! it was a bit poor or the quantity. Even veg was only enough for two, not three! Had to order a second batch of veg which was extra. Over priced for what you are paying for. Other members of the party had pudding which was literally 3 mouthfuls of a trio of desserts! Looking at the people there, it's more wealthy retired people, Food was ok but not anything special.
We went with a group of friends. The food was delicious but some meals were such tiny portions. Me and my friend had seabass and it was so small a portion, also there was 1 tiny dish of vegetables for 6 people, which i felt was a portion for 1. Anyway i thought the pudding would fill me up and had the trio of puddings, this too was minute and for £6.50 , not good. My 2 friends had eton mess, which was cream, meringue and some mandarin oranges at the bottom, again a small portion and nothing special, not worth the price tag. Not sure if i would return
Expensive food and relatively small portions. Only when we complained about the single vegetarian option on the specials board were we then made aware of the separate vegetarian menu. Worst of all was the service charge added because we were in a large group. When we challenged it they said it was optional so we declined it but they then insisted we had to pay it, strange definition of optional! Have subsequently studied their menus online and cannot see a mention of a service charge.
