Had a lovely meal friendly staff good service and food. Reasonable prices. Didn't stay so can't comment on rooms etc but would consider staying in the future. Nearby activities: Close to Calke Abbey
I stayed at the staff of life for a week while away for work. My room was beautiful, the food amazing and the hosts very warm and welcoming. If you visit be sure to try the homemade pies, the best beef pie I have ever eaten, bravo 10/10.Rooms: 5/5
Fantastic! Cosy little country pub good selection of food prices okay. We booked for Sunday Lunch for 4. The pub advertises itself as dog friendly which it is. There's a separate dining area for parties with dogs that I, in my haste to book somewhere, hadn't read properly. The landlord accommodated us as he could see that the dog was very well behaved. I repeat, this was my mistake and they had every right to turn us away. So make sure that you advise if you are coming with a dog. That they didn't turn us away is a testament to the staff. The meals we had were all cooked to perfection. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Definitely recommended.
Visited here for the first time a couple of weeks ago, staff were very friendly, I ate here, food was okay but in my opinion expensive for what it was, also would consider it to be a dog walker's pub.
Great pub. Highly recommend it. The service was excellent. The lovely lady who served us went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Extra mashed potatoes for my fussy Uncle made us all have a giggle. A young lad bought our food out and he was also brilliant. The 2 friendly, helpful staff made our afternoon even more memorable.Service: 5/5

It's in the countryside. A little slow on the food service when I stayed. Beers absolutely The landlord was not good at greeting you at breakfast .Rooms: 5/5
