St. Laurence's Catholic Church

Story

The Church of St. Laurence is a Roman Catholic parish church in Cambridge, UK. It is part of the Diocese of East Anglia within the Province of Westminster. It is part of the Cambridge Deanery and is one of the three parishes serving the city of Cambridge, the other two being Our Lady and the English Martyrs and St. Philip Howard.History of the parish and churchThe first permanent post Reformation Roman Catholic church in Cambridge was Our Lady and the English Martyrs opened and consecrated on 8 October 1890. The Roman Catholic population continued to grow and the opening of a Carmelite convent at 104-106 Chesterton Road in 1923 provided a new place of worship on the Northern side of the town.In 1937 the Carmelite sisters moved to a quieter site at Waterbeach, into a building which, when vacated in the early 1970s, became the Waterbeach Lodge residential home for the elderly. Following the departure of the Carmelites from Cambridge, the need for a new parish gradually became apparent and within a year there was a significant donation of £250 towards establishing a new mass centre or church for Roman Catholics in Chesterton.

The community at St Laurence is so nice, friendly and welcoming! Everyone is welcome
A quite and collected place where share your faith with the christian community. Father Simon's sensitive speeches are inspiring. The cheerful hymns make your spirit full of joy and grateful of sharing the faith with your neighbours.
Excellent sermon.Made me think.
Not a fan. Was under the impression that St Laurence lived here however all that I found was an old woman trying to sell me some christmas cards and preist babbling like there was no tommmorow. I was also not impressed with the wooden pews that are used for seating here. Just recommendation but if you want people to keep coming then some sofas must be put in. 2/7 Not a fan.
Fantastic place, Different Masses throughout Sunday, plus a charismatic Mass once a month. Caters for every way of worship except the latin. Mass. Friendly, welcoming and compassionate.
Place of religious worship, but do modern people understand it at all, I'm afraid they do not understand.
Beautiful church, large inside with plenty of seating but cold and the heating makes a strange noise. The car park isnt very big for the size of the church but there is other parking nearby.
Attended a friend's wedding and the christening of their first child here. A lovely church and with great community facilities attached too.
Very good direction, although you must take other photos that indicate how to get there and which is the seat, because in these photos can not distinguish by the trees that block the entrance of the church. Thank you.
A good church to worship for Christians especially catholics.
