Edinburgh have a lot of hidden gems , one of them is this old ruined chapel , go out there at sundown and you will be rewarded with one of best views in Edinburgh. Car park is usually a problem when you try to visit Edinburgh but this is away from city canter so should not be a problem. So take your friends and have a picnic on edge of chapel at sundown !
Another 20min walk diversion on the way to Arthur's Seat but not the views is worth the diversion, unless you go see the Well and other point of interest in the vicinity. I'd definitely recommend a visit to the whole Holyrood Park, perhaps allocating 2 to 4 hours depending on how much of the spectacular views you want to indulge in.
Wonderful not so hidden gem on the way up to Arthur’s seat. The view from there on the lake are gorgeous. Do not miss it when walking up the hillVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Wonderful short hike with gorgeous views. Hike is gravelly and a bit steep at times.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Super cool structure on the way to Arthur's Seat hike! Definitely worth seeing if you are going down from the Seat. It's very rustic and it has an amazing view of the city. If you come during sun set you will get the best views! Make sure to wear good shoes as it can be muddy.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
St Anthony's Chapel Ruins in Edinburgh is a hidden gem that should not be missed. The chapel ruins are situated in a quiet and peaceful area, surrounded by greenery, providing a sense of escape from the busy city. The ruins themselves are fascinating, with the walls and arches still standing tall despite being in a state of disrepair. Visitors can take a stroll around the site and imagine what the chapel would have looked like in its prime. The surrounding area is also lovely for a peaceful walk or picnic. Overall, St Anthony's Chapel Ruins is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, or just looking for a peaceful escape in the city.
A great view - even if you don’t go all the way to the ruins - especially as the sun is coming down. One of the most beautiful spots in Edinburgh.
Place is worth the climb. Plus you'll be rewarded with stunning view
You can see this on the,way up to Arthur's Seat. But be careful during winter, it can be icy and slippery way up.
We had the good fortune to visit on a beautiful evening, so the walk up to the ruins was sheer joy as it was punctuated by the beautiful scenery of Holyrood Park and views back to the city. There were a number of people on the path, since it shares the ascent to Arthur’s Seat, which we had planned to visit until we saw the final ascent, and realised we were still about 30 mins away- and it was steeper than we had been led to believe! So if you want a really quiet walk in the wilds it may not be your cup of tea, but I wouldn’t say it detracted from the experience as the scenery is so great, and there are plenty of places to stop on the way and sit “off the beaten track” if you want to! The ruins themselves are worth the walk just for the novelty factor, and on a lovely evening, if you don’t mind a gentle uphill stroll, I couldn’t think of a better place to go!
