Great place to visit and excellent audio tour included. Nice to get so close to some of the furnishings and amazing tapestries which often in National Trust properties you are kept well away from. Sadly because of the time of year the gardens were closed which would have added to the experience. Well worth a visit though
Beautiful palace that’s still in use. Excellent audio visual tour that was easy to use and you can go at your own pace and choose whether or not to watch all the content. I would go again just for the architecture but the history, art, and artifacts are great. There are lots of castles to see in Scotland and this was one of my favorites. Don’t forget to tour the gardens.
I enjoyed my visit here very much. The interactive tour guide provides you with a clever mix of interesting facts and stories and also some personal contributions about Holyroodhouse from members of the royal family, such as Prince Charles and Princess Ann. All three - the palace with the remains of the abbey and the garden and the further surrounding, the great landscape make this place to an exceptional experience. No wonder this place is still used by the Queen for official ceremonies and entertaining.
My adult son and I really enjoyed our visit on 6/10/22. Beautiful and fascinating place. The tour inside, assisted with the self guided audio, was fantastic! Recommend purchasing tickets in advance. Allow some time for tea at the Cafe.
Really a wonderful place to visit. Knowing that this castle is still used today is very cool. Seeing things the queen uses while she is there is so interesting! Really loved walking through everything related to Mary Queen of Scots. The cafe was quite lovely as well! The abbey was an added bonus, as was the incredible views of Arthur’s Seat
Today, we had a lovely self-guided tour of the palace. The user-friendly audio guides provided a great overview with supplemental information, if desired. The house and grounds were well-maintained and the personnel was friendly and knowledgeable. We were fortunate to see the special Platinum Jubilee Display and opted to also include the Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace a separate charge. Helpful Hint: Go early and miss some of the crowds.
Really enjoyed my visit here. Miles better than I expected, the history of the place is phenomenal. The interactive tour guide included in the entrance fee is great and really pieces together the story telling. Amazing to think so much history can exist in one place and so well preserved, especially with it being a working palace. Ask on the way out to upgrade your ticket for free to get 1 years entry, well worth a revisit if your are in the area.
Really enjoyed my visit to the Palace of Holyrood while I was in Edinburgh. The palace is huge with so much to see. Don’t forget to grab the audio guides from the ticket counter, I found this to be very helpful during my visit. I learnt so many historic facts about the location and also about Edinburgh from this visit. Great day out for kids as well. The ticket was £18 and it was totally worth it. I would advise buying the tickets in advance to avoid queues. Allow around 2hrs for the whole visit. You can also access the hiking path of Arthur’s seat from here.
Easy to follow audio guide, explained the main points in each room. I was able to bypass the steep spiral stairs up to queen Mary's bedchamber, staff were readily available to ask for assistance. Some rooms had seats available to use while you listened to the audio.
Loved walking around here today, love the history and hearing about the famous people who have visited here. We had the audio tour and it took a bit to figure out how to operate it. Shame really, as the guy who made them available on entry, wasn’t the most welcoming. “Here is your audio guide and grab some headphones”. And off we were sent out into the courtyard. Just remember to look for the signed boards, free standing with numbers on it. The corresponding number will be on your audio player, press the same number and you’re golden. After walking around the house, we eventually walked outside. We exited next to the abbey ruins, and were not able to walk around and view them. This is the reason why I gave 3 stars. Why charge full price when you are unable to do the full visit? Shameful really and left a bitter taste. Would I visit again? Yes, but hopefully the full visit will be available.
