We stopped for lunch en route to London a benefit of NT membership!. The service was fun and excellent, a very sociable host. The food was terrific, and I thought reasonably priced no more than other pubs we ate in on holiday. We each had two starters instead of a main, which was no issue. The setting in the courtyard is lovely. Would definitely come back again, though we would avoid sunny weekends, it might be a bit busy!
We stayed here this weekend and had a lovely time. The staff were so friendly - from the first call we made to order cold platters as restaurant not yet fully open in the evening right through to check-out. It was everything you would expect from a small independent country inn. The food was great both at dinner and for breakfast. All before you factor in the location at one of the most beautiful spots in England and a 300 year old building. It's perfectly located just off the A303 and great place to stop and break journey between London and West Country - we'll definitely return.
Just back from a magical trip to Stourhead. We stayed 2 nights at the Inn and it was wonderful. The staff are amazing, the rooms, beautiful. You get free entry to the house and gardens during your stay. The hotel will arrange drinks and cold platter, in the evening, as they are not open for dinner, at present - but that was fine. Breakfast is huge and excellent. Thank you everyone at the Spread Eagle.
We 17 of us had a meal today at The Spread Eagle Inn and what a pleasure it was. From the booking, pre ordering, arrival, service and food everything was perfect. I would especially like to thank Ben and Dee our servers, I've genuinely never met such smiley, kind, friendly yet professional serving staff. Nothing was too much effort for them, thank you. We will certainly be back
We rocked up with 2 small kids without a booking at 2pm to a very warm welcome and some really delicious food - exactly what we needed after a lovely but chilly walk around Stourhead. We were impressed by the friendly and personal service. We’ll definitely be eating here on future trips! Thank you.
Spur of the moment booking for a table for 7 people before we went wandering around Stourhead. To be honest, they should have turned us down - I wish they had. When we arrived for our table it was still occupied so we had to stand in the bar area trying to keep out of everyone's way. 3 of our party managed to squish on a bench seat, the rest stayed standing. Nearly an hour and half later we got menus to look at and just hoped table would be free by time food arrived. After 2 hours we were seated. Another hour before food came - we should have left, but did not know area and had a very long drive home in pouring rain. Mediocre food - portion size much smaller than other plates we had seen brought out. All very disappointing. Lady behind bar tried her best thank you! - rest of staff I don't think could give a monkeys. Very little atmosphere. Would not go again.
We booked the Festive Dinner for two at the pub. To say mildly, food was very average. My plaice was watery and not seasoned at all. My friends venison cassoulet did not impress her one bit either. My meringue was very hard- not a job for a desert fork. Service was lovely but the food?!
One of the most picturesque pubs in all of the land. Situated on the edge of the beautiful National trust gardens at Stourhead, it's well worth a visit. Gets very busy though so don't leave it late to grab a table.Rooms: 5/5
Obviously immensely popular from locals, good pub food well cooked. But unusually - uniquely- they asked for a service charge which I have never seen or heard of before from a pub. I paid it but was a little annoyed. Just add 10% to your prices instead of adding this at the end!! I know I could have said no, but that seemed impolite.
Lovely location and the food was amazing. Would particularly recommend the broccoli and stilton soup. Also had the steak and ale pie which was tasty. Didn't stay here so cannot comment on or review the rooms.Service: 4/5
