First class since I walked into reception, everyone very friendly, free tea, coffee, biscuits.nI was seen promptly for my assessment, asked to come back the following day. Surgery completed,nFollow up with my optician in 6 weeks.nThank you SpaMedica Warmley.
SpaMedica offers cataract and post-cataract treatments. I was impressed with the quality of their service. Parking is easy and the number 43 bus stops just outside every 20 minutes. They offer tea, coffee and biscuits to all their patients and accompaniers. They have a TV in the waiting room - which they will turn off or on on request.
I'm uncomfortable with anything to do with eyes I'll never be a contact lens wearer so was a bit fearful of cateract surgery. All I can say is that from pre-op through to the operation and discharge I felt welcome and very well cared for. The procedure itself was pain-free with only the tinyest amount pressure being felt I'm expecting far worse when I have a trip to the dentist next week!nIt is now a week after my operation and it is hard to tell the difference in vision between either eye. Another week of drops and I wonder how much better it can get? Happy to recommend.
Communication, expectation management and *ward* waiting environment need drastic improvement. Unnecessary distress wa caused.nI had a long wait of 2 hours + before my operation in the so called ward. This consisted of several small patient pens in a small ante room, each with a chair and tiny table. They look and feel like pig pens. Mine didn't have a window. The pen dividers just encourage patients' chaperones to have loud phone or in person conversations without the normal social consideration afforded when you can see others. The radio with advertisements was blaring. I was told to leave my phone in a locker, however my audiobook and earphones would have made the long wait much more tolerable I should have been told approximately how long I would be held in the pen.nWhen I finally got to the windowless pre op cubicle, the nurse said he was going to put an anaesthetic in my eyes called iodine. I said iodine was a sterilising agent not anesthetic but he couldn't explain what he was doing. This sent me into a state of anxiety. We deserve better.nI wasn't told the clinic does not prescribe pain medication. Paracetamol does not work on me and I would have needed a small amount of codeine for the first two days. Obviously this was another source of unnecessary suffering.nThank God my operation itself appears to be a success so far and I am recovering from the stress of the clinic.nSubsequently I have reduced the stars from 2 to 1. Terrible experience of being fobbed off by the so called emergency helpline at the weekend. The Bristol eye hospital were glad I went in on Sunday rather than waiting for 3 days with my inflammation as spamedica suggested. When I finally got an appointment no surgeon was available even though they were told in advance that was necessary by me, my hospital notes and my community opthalmologist. They just told me what the hospital told me already and offered only one appointment to come back for the surgeon, the only one in the week I couldn't make.nVery por aftercare.
Today I needed the complex team to work on my left eye. They were excellent and the surgeon explained what he could do and what he thought could be achieved. I was happy that he was my surgeon. The whole team was professional in every way.nVery happy to have the work required carried out here. Well done to all.
