The relocation of the Elm Grove Library in Southsea!!

Story

The NEW Southsea Library will be located in the Woolworths site in Southsea as a unique opportunity to re-locate the Elmgrove Library and Community Library Services in Carnegie Library on Fratton Road into the heart of Southsea, where it could more fully meet the reading, information and informal learning needs of the wider community in the Southsea area.

The new library would provide scope to extend the current library offer and broaden the range of services to existing users and all members of the community who live in or visit the area. These will include the relocation of disability library services including the city wide housebound offer, the vision impaired helpline, IT support sessions and the development of downloads technology for the provision of community information and audio materials. These developments would enable the library service to take a pivotal role, regionally in the development and promotion of resources in alternative formats.

Lovely cool library great to relax and read thanks from the ARTFULL DODGER
Such a great place in wonderful location, we have been coming for years. We started bringing our children when they were tiny to the Saturday sing-alongs and now 10 years on still visiting. My eldest loves coming here and getting books to sign out and read from the large children’s section. Plenty of people use the internet services and it was interesting to meet and chat with some local writers at the authors fair. There is a cafe but I’ve rarely seen it operational but considering the library is surrounded by cafes it’s hardly the end of the world. Also the staff are polite and knowledgeable.
Attended the Local Authors' Fair today, in part helping out with a friend's 'C W Laurie' stall. Pleasant atmosphere and found a few interesting books to go for including a thriller by A A Chaudhuri and a cat book, 'Hello, Mr. Bow-Tie!'. Both authors very friendly and happy to inscribe their books...
Really nice library in Southsea Main Shopping Area;this has a cafe and shop area;as well as good internet facilities and very relaxed seating throughout.Also open on Saturday's until 5.30pm and just started opening on Sunday's from 10am to 4pm.Staff very friendly and helpful.
Amazing library with friendly staff and a lot of books and magazines, both for children and adults. A library has a cafe and IT section with computers for kids and grown-ups. They have many social events and workshops.
What would have been of me without this library. I live in Havant, but this place has so much to offer that we did go weekly for years… my son has grown his toddler years in this library! This is not just a place full of books, this is the heart of southsea community. Over the years we have made great friends, done thousands of activities, found lots of support and made great memories….On top of that, my son now devours his books. Thank you so much!

The staff at the library are incredibly helpful and conscientious! Whenever my daughter and I want a book that is not there, they are always happy to order them in. They offer a variety of activities and support for children and adults but as a parent, we engage with the children ones the most. Their 'Space Chase' was the catalyst that got my 4 year old daughter and I into regularly reading together at home. Whenever we pop down to Palmerston, my daughter wants to go into the library as she loves it so much. Even when she was a 1 year old, we would join the rhyme time group at weekends. As I write this review, she is sat on my lap, insisting that she be allowed to type: "we love you" :
The receptionist wasn't particularly warm and had an attitude of check it yourself. A bit more care in customer experience is essential. When asked simple questions, she didn't know and wasn't bothered to say -' I'll find out for you' and said she doesn't know the local area, when asked about parking permits. She asked for a drivers license and didn't even bother reminding me, after payment that it's on the counter through the plastic.
Very quiet with books and computers available but the cafe was closed. An excellent one way system and plenty of hand sanitizer available. There is a designated area for young children that looks very inviting.
