Very well stocked library over many floors dealing with many topics, staff very professional
Depressing like the city centre around it. It doesn't have reading rooms, carpet smells, when the weather is bad, it fills with homeless people and drug addicts, staff try to help but given the mentioned above, to no avail. Do not expect the cultural quiet library experience in Europe or the better boroughs of London. Located amidst two of the most deprived council estates in England, and it shows. Avoid!
Excellent place where to use computer. It is also an excellent place where to study because there are many books. I enjoy using computer at this library. When it is not busy, it is possible to use a computer for 4 hours. Chairs are very comfortable. The library employees are very kind, friendly and helpful. They also provide an outstanding service.
A nice place to visit and work. You can check the current opening hours as of 28 Mar 2023 on one of my pictures.
This place certainly is massive, but what else could be said about Portsmouth's flagship library? They house the Arthur Conan Doyle archives which I have experienced before and well, it's truly amazing indeed. It's a great place for groups as well.
A great place to hang out in. You can get totally lost in a good book or have a coffee. I was there taking part in a workshop put on by Splodge in the Menuhin theatre on the top floor. Was there from 10 am until 2pm. Also did my voluntary shift, shelving books and tidying bookshelves. Well done me.
The volume of the books is not huge in the sense of a central library and new books seem few. Still the variety books should satisfy most readers. Besides it's third floor is a library dedicated to the local history that should be a treasure to researchers or anyone enjoys the reading of history.
Helpful staff. Very good experience.
I love the library. All the staff are so friendly and the selection of books is incredible. They quite frequently have sales of ex-livrary books for 50 pence also so you can stock your shelves cheaply. The library is amazing!!!
