South Place Chop House

About

The ground floor restaurant at South Place Hotel, the South Place Chop House serves delicious dishes using locally sourced ingredients.

Story

South Place Chop House takes inspiration from London’s traditional chop houses – marrying good food with engaging service and a great atmosphere. The venue has been given a makeover, with stacks of classic copper pans, artwork by Thorbjørn Andersen and a choice of intimate banquette seating as well as larger, communal tables.

The cooking – led by Head Chef Oliver Marlowe – is skilled and gutsy. A refinement of the conventional 18th Century Chop House style, it’s perfect for contemporary tastes and sensibilities, food you return to: tasty, satisfying and wholesome.

The uncomplicated, ever-changing menu is dedicated to seasonal and carefully sourced cuts of meat and freshly caught fish, modernised with continental flavours and seasoning. Dishes are designed to reflect nature’s best offerings as they hit their peak: foraged wild garlic, English strawberries or game from the Highlands.

We’re social creatures, so sharing dishes are a key feature of the new menu, with a selection of seasonal specials, such as Black Angus chateaubriand, Jospered milk-fed lamb shoulder, baked wild bass or double-cut rare breed pork chop. All this delicious food will also be complemented by a selection of curated craft beers and a short, sharp list of wines.

Meat is supplied by our favourite butcher, HG Walter, based in Barons Court the team has been sourcing and selling the best meat and game the UK has to offer for over 40 years. Seafood is sustainably sourced from around the British Isles: cod from Cornwall, scallops from Scotland and crawfish from the Scilly Isles. When the produce is this good we think it’s best to keep things simple, giving ingredients nothing more than a quick introduction to our Josper grill and letting flavour take centre stage.

At the weekend, this ground floor space becomes a social spot for brunch. We’re renowned for our free-flowing Bellini brunches – with guests treated to laid-back live jazz every Sunday – loved by our hotel guests and visitors alike.

South Place Chop House is open for breakfast from 6.30 - 11am daily. Lunch is served between noon - 3pm and dinner from 6 - 10.30pm, daily. The hotel’s famous bottomless Bellini brunch also will be held from noon -5pm every Saturday and Sunday.

Ordered steak, roasted chicken, and Mac N cheese for lunch. I'm really disappointed with the food. I took pictures of the middle of the meal. Steak served with room temperature with no taste. Texture was weird. Chicken was ok, at least it was hot. And the Mac n cheese with no taste that even my kid didn't want to eat that.Food: 1/5
We had dinner on Wednesday night. Amazing place. The staff were well trained and friendly. The quality of food was mouthwatering And cocktails were excellent too. I never had this kind of dessert before, very delicious.Food: 5/5
Every meal was delicious, clean & courteous staff; loved the lighting on the wall and relaxed ambiance. Dinner , lunch and breakfast were nicely presented, were delicious and the service was superb. BTW: the vegan ice cream that was served with fig tart was so delicious that I did not know it was dairy free. A big thanks to all staff and Manegment team. Vegetarian options: Curry bowel with sweet potato & rice Vegan desert & etc Dietary restrictions: They always ask about any food allergies and accommodate to your need.
Recently had a meal here in this establishment and was very happy with the service and food. However I would say the ceaser salad as a starter was WAYYYY TOO BIG for a starter and I like my food so that is saying something. Overall lovely staff and service as well as amazing food, WOULD RECOMMEND.Food: 4/5
I recently had the pleasure of dining at 3 South Place with my daughter, and let me tell you, it was an amazing breakfast experience in the heart of central London. I cannot fault both the food or service. The most delicious omelette is being made here! I would recommend everybody to come and try 3 South Place for breakfast for a very memorable dining experience.
We thoroughly enjoyed commemorating my son's 25th birthday. One gentleman, likely the manager, elevated our experience with exceptional service. The cuisine exceeded our expectations. We'll certainly return.Food: 5/5
Came for a quick Friday lunch with my coworker, we had traditional club sandwiches the portions are huge and so tasty Warm welcoming and Leonardo made sure our food comes as quickly as possible as we had limited time to eat. Promet and great service! Will be definitely back! Dietary restrictions: Shellfish allergy
We had breakfast here as it was included with our stay at the South Place Hotel. I’ve dined for breakfast before so was really excited to eat their hash browns again. I was so disappointed. No sight of finely chopped potatoes in the hash brown. It was more like mashed potato deep fried until really crispy. They looked the part but definitely didn’t taste the part. Service was fine, although the busier it got the harder we found to get anyone’s attention. If you’re staying at the hotel at the weekend, I would suggest having a lie in and then booking in for brunch at the Ivy City Garden restaurant not too far away. Eggs Bene and Royal with thick cut chips and the yellowest of yolks for less than £15.
I had nothing to complain about in this establishment. The food is very good and the service extremely attentive and polite. I had a pleasant business meeting. The caramel toffee desert is worth the 900+ calories. Just share it!
I came here on a Sunday and had the beef roast. It was so good! It didn’t get 5 stars because the staff didn’t really explain the menu correctly to us and therefore we had ordered some expensive drinks. But the roast was really good and I would go back. It didn’t wow me but definitely a great place. The roast is £20 so it is slightly pricy but a treat yourself on a Sunday... why not!
