What an experience!Amazing Recordstore, very helpful an friendly guys in there. Good vibes. I will definately come back, thank you soulbrother records for having me today!Love from the swiss guy.
The best Soul, R&B, and Jazz record shop in London! Floor to ceiling vinyl and CDs, regular in-store PAs and signings. Also checkout their weekly show on Solar radio. Maurice and Lawrence are fonts of knowledge, and you'll always get a warm welcome every visit. A must if you're looking for either brand new releases or a rare classic - highly recommended.
Very pleasant and helpful. Not sure if the individual was the owner but he took a lot of time to show me some of the compilations and vinyl records that suited what I was looking for. He possessed a great amount of genre based knowledge. Made my shopping experience easier. I would recommend this shop to viny loving crate diggers.
Genuinely one of my favourite places on earth. Exceptional record shop - one of the few still standing in London. In operation for over 30 years, the iconic shop is famously situated outside East Putney station. Going inside is an amazing experience. Inclusive, plus surrounded in a bottomless pit of truly ceaseless musical talent from the ages. Decades upon decades of soul, funk and jazz, all funding the music industry properly, providing artists with a vital source of income. The shop has no need to advertise, as it sells itself, like a sports car. Soul Brother Records is a name also synonymous with the record label. The shop's owner and music mogul Laurence Prangell has released hundreds of brilliant releases on this label. Artists even come in-store for quarterly album signings, including most recently the incredible, up-and-coming Camilla George. Except for Doreen, all of the shop's staff are enthusiastic only joking, Doreen but the staff really do have an extensive knowledge of soul music. This is the best specialist portal for a specific genre family within music that I have ever been lucky enough to experience. How much more bougie can you get than a jazz and Soul specialist, independent record shop with over 30 years of history, bordering a London high street? The shop brings the vinyl romance that can only be experienced with an independent shop. Contrary to belief, they actually have MORE soul, jazz and funk records in their selection than HMV do! And for lower prices on a lot of SBR's items, owing to the great loyalty card scheme. This shop is a must-visit for anyone in London. In short, this shop offers the very exclusive, authentic specialist record shop experience that only London can offer, owing to the eclectic mix of heritage that has blossomed into the musical talent of hundreds of artists that would never have collaborated and taken inspiration had they not been plunged into the incredibly diverse, culturally rich & prosperous surroundings of London. Although I always leave with a very empty wallet, my speakers are always full with what Trevor Nelson calls the "good groove"
Bought off their web site and never received item. Tried to contact them via email and web site and was totally ignored. Phoned and was told they can't find the item, but had "seen" it and would send it within a week. Nothing arrive! Luckily I paid with PayPal and had got a refund. These guys are rip off merchants and I would totally avoid.
Would have given minus star if possible. Total rip off. Ordered a CD that never arrived and when I tried to communicate via E-Mail I was totally ignored which is a shame as they seem to have a great selection.
I’ve never actually been to the shop, as I’m a long way from London. I’ve bought a fair few records online over the years though. Always pleased to get vinyl from a proper independent shop, staffed by people who clearly love records! I had a somewhat unusual delivery request during the current CV19 and they very kindly accommodated this. I look forward to popping in sometime. Oh - the radio show is well worth a listen too!
My friend bought a record for my birthday online and she never received it. This was back in September this year 2022. After sending numerous messages to their Facebook page, contact form on the website, email's and phone calls neither of us have had any reply at all! We're both being totally ignored and there's no sign of getting the money back! Absolutely shocking customer service, do not buy anything online from them as if you have a problem you will just be ignored!
My challenge to visit every independent record shop in London continues. Great shop for soul/rnb and jazz but prices slightly high so not one for bargain hunters.
Absolutely terrible! I called twice to ask for a record and they immediately asked "I'm sorry who are you?" then put the phone down. I tried calling back to give them another chance and they said "sorry mate we are not interested" before I even got a word out. I was STUNNED. I'm a potential customer looking to make an order and I'm not given a second to breathe what on earth is that all about?
