Friendly village pub. Great for lunch or just for a drink. Good pub lunch menu with roast dinners as well on Sundays. Lovely village atmosphere in the bar. All good
Me and my parents went here on the 13.11.22 very busy but we got a excellent service our roast beef was fantastic and desert was delicious. Friendly atmosphere and all the staff were welcoming. Very good little village pub would recommend to anyone.
We have been to the carvery today bit had to wait for more vegetables and the beef was tough. We waited a long time for our desserts and felt we were nit attended to very well. It was my birthday so wanted it to be special!
A lovely little honest pub tucked away in a quiet village. It's a 3 minute walk from the Kennet and Avon canal where there are a few locks and a barge dock, nice walk and you may well see the locks in use. Food is standard for this type of pub and very tasty worth a visit. The staff are great, keen to please.
What an impression. I stayed here for a week and didn't have to go far. The staff extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, the food was abundant and spot on, made by a brilliant chef. I wish I could have stayed longer. The locals immediately took me in and were friendly. What a great place to visit and a great atmosphere.
Good food at a reasonable price.
It was ok, food average for a pub these days. Cost of utilities kept the ambient temperature down. May go back when weather is warmer.
Decided to take the family of 6 out for a Sunday carvery at the Somerset Arms, table booked for 2.00pm carvery finishes at 2.30pm Got drinks then shown to our table by the friendly staff. 2 of our party opted for the fish and chip dinner and the other 4 chose the carvery. Sorry to say that none of us enjoyed the main meals as the fish was watery where it had been defrosted from frozen, tepid and undercooked in the middle, neither was fully eaten, the 2 wafer thin slices of beef was chewy, roast potatoes dry with a unpleasant powdery texture/taste, the cauliflower cheese contained no cheese at all might have been labelled wrong, should have been labelled just cauliflower and all four carvery meals weren't exactly cold but certainly less than warm. When the staff cleared our plates from the table they never asked if we enjoyed the meals as there was food left on all the plates 2 of the plates had hardly been touched We did notice that the party of 4 on the next table left without eating their meals so perhaps they had the same issues After a long wait we received the sweet board and we all opted for puddings that although presentation was rather plain were delicious. If the food had of been better I'd have paid the very reasonable £117 bill happily, but paid in full feeling that we didn't really receive value for money We have been to the Somerset Arms a few times in the past for meals and thoroughly enjoyed each visit but unfortunately not this time. We think that the problem was that we were the last diners before the carvery finished and we were served what remained after a busy afternoon. When we go out for dinner we like leave a tip but decided not to on this occasion. I wanted to complain at the table but the wife didn't want me to make a fuss and just said we won't be coming back Sorry to be crtiicial Somerset Arms but that summed up our dining experience
Needed somewhere reasonably priced to stay whilst visiting some friends, and this place was perfect. We had a great welcome from the barmaid who saw us to our room, and explained access etc. The room isn’t large, but it is perfect for an overnight stay with an ensuite bathroom containing a shower. The bed was super soft and comfortable, we had a really good nights sleep, and the full English the next morning was expertly cooked. We went for a walk along the canal next morning which is a 10 minute walk away, lovely countryside.
Stunning place with loads of style and charisma but sadly let down by the quality of the food. The staff are friendly and helpful and the portions are huge but the quality is not good. Had the fish and chips there and the chips tasted oily and worse still old oil and the fish was terrible too. The better wasn‘t soft and as you would expect but it was again hard and full of old oil/fat. We went there as a big group and several of us didn‘t feel very good after the food and struggled through the rest of the day. Very disappointing as it could be a great place but sadly this is just a big let down and won‘t go back again based on this experience. Maybe to grab something to drink with a friend as it does look very nice but that is about it.
