Very good unassuming pub with a very long history. Plenty of seating with a separated restaurant. Excellent beers and a good choice of food. Friendly staff. Good sized adventure garden.
Very disappointing. We haven’t been here for a while and have previously had really good experiences but after today we won’t be going back. There were a range of mistakes and examples a poor service through out our visit. It stared with being served regular coke when diet was ordered and got worse from there. Three people in our group have gluten allergies and it took three attempts for the staff to give us a straight answer about what we could eat I suspect my meal may still have contained gluten. There was also some confusion about what kids menu was available on a Sunday but said anything could be made a child’s portion. The food came out very slowly, there was at least 20 minutes between the first and last plate arriving. At the end of the meal we asked for the kids ice cream , two came but we were informed that we should order and pay for the rest at the bar, we queried this as the menus said the kids meal came with free ice cream, we were then told that didn’t include Sunday and it only came with a drink which we also hadn’t had. We argued this and pointed out the sign but we’re told we wouldn’t be charged for the ice cream we’d had but wouldn’t get the rest but could have the drinks bit late at the end of a meal. Food was nice but I’d never go back, save you money and go to any of the other great pubs in the area. So disappointed
I wish I could rate this place more than 5 stars. After having a wonder of the town we found this pub to have some late lunch not realising they all shut there kitchens around 3, we went to leave after finding this out but the staff went above and beyond to cook us some lunch. I had the Mac and Cheese which was the best thing I have ever eaten and my partner had the ham egg and chips which he said was really good too. They had a good offer on that with a ice cream to follow which again was so refreshing and yummy. I wish we lived closer to be able to return as we loved it there, again thank you so much for feeding us we are beyond grateful!
Visited the Smugglers on Friday lunchtime. Lovely feel to it and the staff really made us feel welcome. We were greeted by a young lad who was so polite, friendly and helpful. The food was great and good value for money. Such nice people and it really made a difference to our visit. We will be back soon!
A big portion of fish & chips, a filling lunch!
Still feeling ill the day after this happened. Arrived about 12.40 with my partner for some food. Sat down and ordered two drinks. I asked for a diet Pepsi but was told that they only had Coke. The drink that arrived was ordinary Coke, not too clever for a diabetic!! We then ordered a chicken salad and a Smuggler's burger. The food arrived about 14 minutes later, we started. The chicken salad was good and well presented, the burger was well presented BUT on eating some of the burger, the middle was cold, as in almost fridge cold, the outer crust of the burger was cooked. After bringing this to attention of the staff a new burger was "cooked" and served to me. I cut it in half and tried the middle. AGAIN it was under cooked and luke warm in the centre. The staff member came over to ask how it was; I had to say it was "marginally better" but that "I could not eat it". I asked for the bill and left at 13.14, I was not charged for the burgers. Please check your burgers if you go to the SMUGGLERS INN. This spoilt my day, and the next. Surely, even a frozen burger, should be cooked to the correct temperature before serving. Poor food standards!
Welcoming staff great food, a locals pub but were made to feel part of the group. Would be very happy if it was our local!
Very nice & pleasant staff. Good meal & menu available.
Visited there on Sunday, very warm welcome, lovely staff and a lovely Sunday roast. My only criticism is that the pub itself could have been warmer, as many customers were keeping their coats on. However, would definitely go back again.
Excellent lunch stop over the baked Camembert was delicious and the loaded chips were tremendous. Compliments to the whole team from the lovely warm welcome to the great value food. Thank you.
