My god this place was a disappointment! We drove 40 minutes to try it after a barrage of adverts showing up on my Facebook feed and after seeing their menu and noticing that they served a favourite Canadian speciality called poutine. Even though we were the only 2 customers in the restaurant we were placed at a table so close to the door that it's a wonder how the rest of the customers didn't knock the food off the table as they entered. Our starter and drinks were ok however, this is where it all started to go wrong. After we finished our starters, we were going to order another cocktail and wait for our mains, but were essentially ignored for half an hour while we sat there staring at our empty plates and listening to a baby screaming at the top of its lungs. By the time our server came over to collect our plates, asking if we'd finish and ask us if we wanted more drinks, we had lost the will to live, and didn't bother ordering any. We just wanted to eat our mains and get out of there. Finally, another 10 minutes past and we got out mains. My wife had ordered a hot dog with poutine on the side, and my i had ordered the meat platter with poutine on the side. However, the 'poutine' that they served us was not poutine. It was a bowl of skinny fries should be chips with skin on, with some awful looking chunky gravy never seen a poutine with anything but smooth beef gravy, and grated cheddar cheese it should have been cheese curds, which are small chunks of cheese produced early in the cheese making process - basically, very new, fresh cheese. They have a distinct salty flavour and are stringy when they melt. My wife took one look at it and told our server that it was not poutine. She looked at her like she was talking another language or just stupid. I have no idea if she was just playing dumb, or if she really had never heard the word 'poutine' before. I mean, did she not know her menu? She was asked if she knew what a cheese curd was and she laughed nervously and said no. She said that we needed to wait to speak to the man who had taken our order, who at that time was taking a large order at another table. So, we waited patiently while he took their order, just to see him turn and walk away back into the kitchen without even glancing our way! The restaurant was now empty of staff and no one for us to talk to about it, and we were left sitting there like idiots staring at our plates of food waiting for him to come back, and not knowing whether he planned on coming back at all! We sat there for no exaggeration, 10 minutes, getting more and more wound up, before my wife finally got up and went to look for someone. At that point he comes out of the kitchen and she tell him I've been waiting for him. He says that he has been 'speaking with the chef.' Now I don't know what they could have possibly been talking about for 10 minutes. Maybe they were Googling ‘poutine’. The gist of it was that they had 'run out of cheese curds.' He asked us if we wanted to substitute it with something else. We told him we just wanted to go home, so he said we could leave without paying for our starter or drinks oh how generous!. If they had told us when we ordered that they had run out of cheese curds, we would have been disappointed, but would have carried on with our meal, and made the most of it. Instead, they tried to pull the wool over our eyes I would be surprised if they ever serve actual poutine - they probably rely on the fact that most customers don't know the difference, and handled our complaint very poorly, so we were left absolutely fuming. It was text book how not to treat your customers when they complain. They should remove poutine off of their menu if they cannot serve it properly. At the very least it is against trading standards to advertise one thing and provide something different. This place is an absolute disgrace. I have never been treated so poorly.
Great meal for a great price! Food was superb - full rack of ribs for just £7 - was dubious to start and thought I would probably be getting something to match the price, but what I got was a huge rack of tender, fall off the bone baby back ribs! We also ordered a Boston deli burger which is right up there with the best burgers we've experienced. If I was local, I'd be returning on a regular basis! Service was also very good :
We were keen to visit the Smoke Shack since it opened, being that the food is in vogue. The entire dining experience though, was well above the standard we were expecting. The restaurant is intimate and quirky. Our table for two afforded ample space and the decor and atmosphere was warm and inviting. Music, temperature and other factors were all very good. The service was hands-down fantastic for the duration of our meal - all this before we'd even eaten a bite. And we ate like kings! The food was absolutely fantastic, appropriately portioned and offered extraordinary value. The ingredients were obviously of a high quality. The preparation and presentation of our meals was second to none. The only gripe I had was that the take-home sauces had sold out, presumably due to popularity. I cannot wait to eat at the Smoke Shack again.
Went here for Father's day and looked forward to good, tasty bbq food. Were I wrong. I had a meat feast which were well prepared and good value for money. Apart from the pulled pork, the meats were really bland. Our waitress were cold and seemed like it were the last place she wanted to be. At the end of the meal she just threw our bill on the table. I will not be back nor will I recommend this place.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. The menu is "different" and a welcome change from the run of the mill. Food quality was very good and portion sizes were fine by me. This place can get very busy, so I would advise you to book. Last time I was there it was a Tuesday night and I could see them turning away walk-ins!
Absolutely amazing food. Great friendly atmosphere and the staff know the food well. Really can't over state how much the food is. Great pork ribs and a good variety or meats and flavours. Is really worth booking as there's almost no chance of a walk in table on Friday or Saturday
Dissapointed as I was expecting good quality. The staff were friendly however, there was fairly poor preparation, 2 chicken burgers, chichen breasts were extremely dry. 1 special ordered burger, gluten free, came with nothing but the chicken and bread, no salad nothing... All for a premium price of £7.95 per burger. This was at the Stony store from the takeaway menu.
We ate here on the 5th September 2015 at as usual it was amazing. This is by far and away my favourite place to eat in Buckingham if not my favourite place full stop. On the 4th we were served by Ben, Olivia, and Sarah. Those guys really sorted us out, made us feel welcome and altogether added to our evening. If you've not eaten here before its a must!!!!
Milk shakes weren't being served. No Wi-Fi for the public. Pulled pork was below average, chicken wings tasted like they were done in a oven, steak was cold, ribs were OK plenty of smoke taste on them, sweet potato fries were good. Didn't really feel like bbq food for me. Won't be rushing back any time soon.
nice little spot for dinner in stony stratford. although they cant seat massive numbers they do offer takeaway. the staff are friendly. and the food has been consistently nice whenever i have been. cant fault the smoke shack.
