Tried the stew and dumplings a couple of weeks ago and couldn't even cut into the dumpling it was so hard and dried up but thought it was maybe an off day so tried again tonight with a patty butty and it wasn't nice at all, grey inside and tasteless. Such a shame its gone downhill under the new ownership.
Used this place since the 90’s & has always been ok. Went in tonight & realising it’s changed hands now with the usual staff no longer there. Bought a tray of chips and a fish Pattie, half the tray was scraps instead of chips & well the fish Pattie was overpowered with herbs. Who puts herbs in fish patties. Never again will I use that place.
Chips with scraps are the best the guy gives a lot of scarps and curry sauce is peng TT
Had lunch last week not to good gave it the benefit of yhe doubt and went again today patties were very dark inside and very peppery unable to eat them not the same as they were very disappointing

There is a new owner now and he touches money and then the food that the customers will eat. Disgusting. Food hygiene rating should not be at 5.
Disappointed in smithy's chip shop dont do large fish any more so only do small fish and charge you for a big fish when it's the size of a small fish fish thats a kids special fish and it did not taste good at all so very disappointed in price and taste and chips wasn't very nice neither and the mushy peas was horrible
I've been coming to Smithys since I was a child, there's a wide range of food to choose from such as lasagna to stu & dumplings, the food & service has always been definitively great, the staff have always taken care of the customers & community for years, hence the reason for it still being in operation after all these years.
I'm surprised I've not reviewed this place before, I've frequented this fish and chip shop for years, and always, always had great fish and chips and quality service from really friendly staff. Well be back soon :
Great food, nice staff. Definetly a family favourite
