I have been going The Slug for many years and it used to be really great, but I will not go back there again. The Slug has been on a steady decline for awhile and now, it just sucks. Too many times have my food orders been completely forgotten, never mind late! I went with some friends to watch the Wimbledon final there, and we couldn't order food because the chef couldn't keep up with the orders and they closed the kitchen before 4pm! The bar was maybe a quarter full! And the staff used to be really friendly and useful, now they just have no clue with the rare exception, there is one girl from South Africa there use is still very helpful. EVERY TIME we go to watch the rugby we miss half of the first half because the staff have no idea how to change the Sky box channel, and it's even worse if it is on the red button! That is just too much to process! And every time we end up drawing straws to see who's turn it is to go ask for the UMPTEENTH time to PLEASE PUT THE RUGBY ON. Eventually it does happen, usually to sarcastic applause. In summary, this place used to be a great bar, and is probably still good after 10pm if you just want to drink and dance the night away, but it is not a bar anymore worth going to at all, unfortunately. It used to be so great.
To be honest there is nothing special on most days but Thursdays is different. This is when Asian students from the language schools come its student and the drinks are half price. That's a good reason to come here in itself. Staff are fast and efficient. If they could stay open after midnight it would be perfect.
The Slug used to be great, used to. It is now awful. The bar staff are incompetent and couldn't care less - paid money for the darts machine and it didn't work my only response was a shrug of the shoulders and an 'unlucky' comment. Tried to order drinks but they don't keep track of whose next and only serve their friends. Toilets are disgusting. Bouncers are lewd and condescending. Bring back the old Slug and not this worthless pile of sh*te
I appreciate the change in priority with the sharks games; although the supporters banner has been mysteriously removed. Great SA atmosphere and ive enjoyed my time at every match. My only concern and I share this with others who were also waiting while, is that the team don't show the need to move it at the critical busy times and they don't seem to take note of those waiting...I work in a bar myself. On that note, I'm looking forward to watching the sharks vs bulls match later there today! Go Sharks :D
The Slug appears to be going through a facelift, unfortunately their service levels have taken a dive. Tried ordering drinks and a meal on Sunday, resulting 2 of the 5 food orders being wrong and sent back and a long wait to get drinks. I have had great times at the Slug and hope to again.
Great food, big screen sports and atmosphere. Terrible management when it comes to staffing levels at busy times. Only 2 bar staff on a busy sunday. 1 hour waut fir food and 15 mins for drinks. Just add 2 more bar and 1 kitchen staff and people will leave so much money in this place. I guess the owners are content with the mediocre service and in turn mediocre amount of money they are making in this place. Time for new owners or new management i think.
The Slug is a place of extreme beauty and pleasure. Imagine a long hard day, you're tired, you're down, it looks like nothings going you're way... but then... you hear the mystical pour of a cider/lager combination with a playful trickle of ribena in-between. The Snakebite. The barman hands you the glorious chalice of dreams and you slowly pull the Beverage of Gods to your lips. The anticipation of Life fills your entire being. That first sip enters your body and like an atomic bomb, the magical flavours explode your soul as the Holy Trinity of Beverages flirt with your taste buds and impregnate your mind. That whole concept is The Slug. They also found my keys after a messy night out.
The Slug @ Wimbledon is a sports bar popular with the Aussie, New Zealanders and South Africans living in London, it is most definitely due to the fantastic drinks offers this bar regularly has on. We passed thru Wimbledon one evening and on this particular night when you order your round of drinks they gave you a glass with a dice in it, if you correctly guess the number your drinks are FREE!!! The staff were helpful without appearing flustered as it was rammed! With numerous screens all over the venue, the bar is fantastic for watching sports and bills itself as the best AFL venue in London. All in all a great venue! - oh and dont miss out on the mechanical bull upstairs!
Great food and drinks, great prices and awesome screens for sport. Slightly too loud if you want to be able to talk to the person next you, forget it. Not that kind of place. Great saffer watering hole.
One of my go to places whenever I'm in Wimbledon. Food is lovely & the drinks are reasonably priced. Student nights are always a blast!
