19 of us went there for my wife’s 50th birthday. Have to say it was absolutely fantastic. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. The food was awesome and it all arrived at the same time so we all ate together rather than bit at a time. 100% value for money and we will definitely be back
We chose the Sloop as whilst we haven’t been here for some time we remembered it had a children’s soft-play area as we had a pair of 3yr-olds with us. However unfortunately it looks like this no longer exists. It’s nicely done out, and at the time of our visit full of other families enjoying cheap food. I had chicken skewers - now I’ve had these before in another hungry horse pub and had the same complaint there. Thought I’d try them again to compare but unfortunately the chicken is not great at all - the best way I can describe it is “mushy”, like it’s been pulled from a freezer and heated up too quickly. The meal was cheap though, plus I used my AA Discount for a further 20% off making it good value really if you’re not too picky with your food. The gents toilets were generally clean and tidy but the door to the cubical is fitted the wrong way and as such is damaged because you can’t enter it properly because the door won’t open fully. Needs sorting out.
The Sloop is a great pub and has improved in many ways from times gone by since it's refurbishment. All ages are catered for, from live sports on the large screen, a pool table, kid's play area in front of the pub, quieter designated zone for adults only and an extensive all day menu and kid's menu. Staff are friendly and helpful, ample indoor & outdoor seating areas and a decent sized car park at rear of the premises. The food was excellent on our visit especially the Ultimate Candymania! Highly recommended to visit any time of the day or evening!
It was better than I expected! I had a chicken sizzler which was lovely. The chicken was juicy and had a lovely Caribbean sauce on and sat on a bed of onions and peppers. The sweet potato fries were also lovely. I seemed to be missing the coleslaw, but I had more than enough on my plate anyway. My husband had a chicken burger which he said was good too. It was nice not to cook!
Ate here every day whilst on a short break. Food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Very good value for money. Thoroughly recommend The Sloop
A very pleasant and well-run hostelry, slightly let down by a lack of care and attention to the outside eating area, albeit that in November the month this was written eating outside is not an option. The staff are very pleasant and polite. There is a good selection of dishes on the menu at affordable prices. Likewise the bar is well stocked. The icing on the cake is that dogs are welcome providing they are well behaved.
I visited the Sloop at the beginning of December for dinner and drinks with friends. We had a fantastic night, the food was delicious and great value for money. The service was excellent - special thanks to Sam, she couldn't do more for us. We will definitely be visiting again!
On arrival we were meet by a friendly bar tender who showed was to our table ordered on the which was really easy to do, drinks arrived fast. Food was brought to the table by a super lovely lady dawn she deserves a bonus! and finally the food was amazing, my kids rated it 10/10.
If there was an option of no stars I’d go for that! We’ve eaten here so many times & always had good food but today couldn’t have been any worse. We both had the roast beef. It came cold, sent both back & was offered fresh for that to come exactly the same. Cold! No roast potatoes, had to ask for them, no cutlery & we didn’t eat the food. No-one came & asked us if it was ok They weren’t overly busy so not sure what went wrong today We definitely won’t be back again
Went here yesterday for a family meal. Overall it was a good meal at good value. I haven't been to a hungry horse for years and remember there famously large portions. I was however baffled as to why when I ordered a large coke it was only filled to three quarters. This seemed unnecessary and I felt short changed and this has made me question returning.
