"Our Glasgow city centre car hire branch is located right in the heart of Glasgow. We are on Waterloo Street, so just a short walk from Glasgow Central Station and George Square. And we offer the flexibility of being able to return your car outside of opening hours on request. When booking at our city centre branch in Glasgow, you’ll have a number of car categories to choose between. A small hatchback for easily getting around Glasgow, or a 4x4 if you are venturing outside the city. Our cars are just 3 months old, on average. If you’re looking for van hire in the centre of Glasgow, SIXT also has that covered. We have vans of various sizes available to hire, as well as optional moving equipment, depending on what you need."

Shady. The Edinburgh location is nice but after I returned the car to Glasgow, I received a charge for fuel even though I had filled up the car before returning it and they have filed a damage claim for a scratch on a tire rim when there were already scratches there pre- existing. It’s hard not to believe that this location is trying to squeeze more pounds and pence out of customers and causing them far more grief than is necessary. I filed documentation with photos but the emails have yet to be addressed. It’s distressing to have to put up with this after returning the car in well kept condition. What really is needed is a way to file a complaint against the conduct of this business or its employees, at this location. It makes me reluctant to choose this company ever again.
We found Sixt easily via Google Maps. We are a bit disappointed though, the salesperson talked us into getting extra insurance and warned us about the bad road conditions in the country. I'm from Switzerland and the road conditions here are almost better than home though. We ended up spending a lot more money than needed. So when you rent a car there, be careful that they don't talk you into getting unnecessary insurances.
We rented a car here in July 2024 and were extremely disappointed with the experience. The car itself was in a decent condition, however the service we have received has been awful. Firstly, we were not warned that if we wanted to pick up the car an hour later, we would not be able to note any issues with the car via the website. We took photographs, but this felt rather unsafe, like we might not be able to use them as proof. It should be made clear that this must be done immediately upon checking in for the car. However, the biggest issue was experienced afterwards. We brought our car back on July 13th at 14:20 with a full tank of petrol, even took a photo to prove this. The staff at reception told us we were free to go and they could not look over the car at this time, but our parking ticket would confirm that we’d brought the car back. After weeks of emails with no response to them, we contact Sixt International, only to be told that our car had been handed in multiple days later and with an empty gas tank. We asked that their records be checked. After this they confirmed that they had indeed made a mistake and it was handed in on time, but with an empty tank. Accompanied by a patronising email that they would refund us in full, as a gesture of goodwill. We sent proof of the full tank. Sixt apologised. And now, a month later, we have received our deposit and £50 is missing from it, our personal account still says that the car was brought back two days late, and we’ve had no further communication from Sixt. This is awful service and not worth the money and nerves spent. We’ve used Sixt before in Portugal and never experienced any problems.
Very stressful experience dealing with SIXT Glasgow, will never rent from them again and will warn others off them. When I picked up the prepaid car, the exterior was covered in mud and chalk marks, so I was unable to check it for damage, and it had clearly not been inspected by the SIXT team. I had an incident-free rental period, but then upon returning the car in the condition I hired it in, I recieved an invoice for £930 for a barely visible scratch on the rear door that was almost certainly already there when I picked it up as indicated by the chalk markings in that spot. I have contested it via email but have received no response, and based on other reviews here, it seems unlikely that I will recieve a fair and honest dealing. Beware of this company, choose another option!
I rented a Renault Clio during our stay in Glasgow to take a day trip to Oban ahead the day before. The process was smooth and the car was ready for pickup. The staff at the desk was good and processed me in good time. The return, after closing hours, was a little confusing trying to find the spot but it wasn't too bad. I found the spot and dropped the key in the return box. Overall good experience. FYI, if you are from out of the country and you are taking a day trip, make sure you rent a car with navigation included like we did, unless you have unlimited data on your international pass from your phone provider. The navigation helped save my data from having to use google maps. Also opt for unlimited mileage as you will probably drive over 200 miles. You will pay a little extra for these but it is worth it. I also rented a manual transmission since I drive a manual back home in USA, but I will admit it was awkward at first driving a right-hand vehicle and found myself instinctively reaching for the gear shifter with my right hand rather than my left. If I had to do it again, I would have rented an automatic to make it easier on myself, but eventually I got used it after about 30 minutes. You could get used to it too, but I'd say make it easy on yourself if you want to avoid the learning curve.
Picked up a car here with a reservation, and it was the smoothest car rental process I've ever had! Ish, the agent, was very helpful with picking out the best options for me and also giving me tips for the road using Waze and which scenic routes to take. I was in and out super quickly.
I'd rented with SIXT in the US before. This was my first time renting in the UK. The agent at the branch, Wilson, was amazing, informative and friendly. He helped us with the car, the extras and tips on our trip. We we super happy with the car and it was wonderful for our 11-day road trip.
This is the best car rental experience I have ever had, and I’ve rented a lot. Rahul is absolutely outstanding. Friendly, efficient, compassionate and reassuring, in times like these when the rental experience can be anxiety fuelled, he is a beacon of comfort.. I highly recommend here anyone who would like to have a perfect rental experience..
Update 05/03: I have emailed SIXT with my reservation and final invoice. I am waiting for their reply. Original: I reserved a car on sixt website for £90. On my pick-up day, they did not have the car I reserved, so they offered me an option to upgrade my car to a more expensive one. When I got back my deposit about one week after the trip, I noticed that I am the one who paid for the price difference of the upgrade, which is £180 in total twice the original price. They did mention giving me a 30% discount to match my price but that discount did not happen. This is the only company in the world where the customer have to pay for the upgrade when they did not reserve your car. Do not trust the price and reservation on their website! On your travelling day, they may not have your reserved car. Then, you have to pay for their more expensive option if you do not want to cancel your trip. Go to a more honest and reliable company. The small saving on their price is just an illusion.
I've just written a 1 star review for Avis/Budget Glasgow City, so it's only correct that I write a 5 star review dor Sixt Glasgow City which is just next door and their staff member, Malik. After being denied vehicle collection at Avis/Budget due to really wrong and incorrect reasons go to their review page for those reasons, Malik understood the situation, and was quickly able to verify our credentials and arrange a car swiftly. Malik is to be commended not only as a great customer service agent, but also as a great brand ambassador for Scottish tourism. The awful experience from Avis/Budget was able to be turned around due to Malik's professionalism, and our trip and a £1,000 of pre-booked accommodation was saved. Thank you Malik and Sixt!
