Story

Open since October 2000, Shu (the ancient Egyptian god of atmosphere) is set in a fine Victorian terrace on Belfast's stylish Lisburn Road.

Furnished in a contemporary style to create a bright space with lots of natural light, the 90-seater main restaurant interior is by the leading local designer Paul Horscroft. Materials such as dark wenge wood and brown leather are used prominently.

Shu incorporates a basement cocktail bar, the main ground floor restaurant replete with a theatre-style kitchen, and a private dining room located on the first floor.

The steak was excellent however the service was very slow. Tables too close together and at one point the waiter at the next table came into contact with me as he tried to push between the two tables As I was eating my meal I was less than impressed. However as I have said, the food was very good when it eventually arrived nearly an hour after our sharing breads

Had Christmas dinner here with work. With 40 staff getting served cooked to order food it was slick and effortless. The food was one of the best Christmas dinners I have had. Usually the quality declines at Christmas in restaurants and hotels but this restaurant kept the quality at its best. Worth paying a premium for.

Overall very good. Great atmosphere and buzz. Wine was good and reasonably priced. Drinks orders were not always correct. No egg with the beef tartar? Mains were actually better than the starters which is unusual in my experience. One big let down was the cheese. Really not good at all. Seemed like a bit of an after thought. Not an inspiring selection and many were very dry because they were either too old or had not been stored correctly. Negatives aside, I would certainly visit again.

I had a really bad experience in this restaurant last night! I order 4 steaks for my wife , 2 kids and me, one rare and three medium, they all came back very tough! I was looking at my daughters and one could not swollen her steak! I ask the server to bring the steak back to the chef to see what he thinks. The manager came who looks very Young !was nothing but rude!! At one point he was Shoving a plate with a steak on it into my face saying take it sure your kids are hungry ! I would highly recommend not to use this restaurant as food is terrible and service is a very very big letdown and How this guy became a manager in this restaurant is Beyond me Martin I can’t believe the reply you have put on this post. How dare you say I use bad language in front of my children!! YOUR REPLY SAYS IT ALL! How unprofessional

It's not what it used to be, menu is fine, but limited for vegetarian dishes. Staff can be a bit odd at best of times. Not one we would rush back too.
