Ship Inn
"Located in the small village of Levington, hidden next to St Peter’s church, on a vantage point overlooking the Orwell River, lies the Ship Inn.The Grade 2 listed building dates back as far as the 14th century, had its first license granted in 1712. Originally named The Musket, the pub supposedly had links to infamous smuggler Margaret Catchpole and had a secret cupboard under the eaves for where smugglers could hide their goods. The pubs exterior has colourful hanging baskets and a classic thatched roof. As you enter the building the you are greeted with the beautiful low ceilings and original beams as well as the warmth from the log burner."

Lovely traditional inn with a distant view of the river Orwell. The Ship is situated in the beautiful Suffok village of Levington. Reasonably good selection on their usual menu with separate specials menu available. The food was excellent. We sat inside as the weather was indifferent but outside seating is available for when the weather is kinder. Staff were friendly and helpful. This venue was recommended to us and we were not disappointed.
Apologies for the lack of food photo's it wasn't our priority! I can say though that it was served beautifully and enjoyed by all ;D There was a delay in drinks due to the changing of the barrel which did take quite some time so was slightly irritating and one of the mains had been missed from the order - but no real issue as this was supplied promptly. The walk to and from and the views there, together with the friendly staff and ambience allows me to give a 5* review. I do hope others enjoy this wonderful location.
Absolutely lovely welcome, great service, food was unbelievably good. BBQ belly pork ribs and a Jaffa cake sundae dessert. Will visit again soon.Food: 5/5
My partner and I enjoyed a ‘proper tasty’ Sunday roast at The Ship Inn this evening. Big plate. Plenty of gravy. Nicely cooked veg with two lovely slices of beef. Great service. Attentive and engaging. We will be back. Thank you. [16.07.2023] Parking: Big gravel car park at the back of the pub with loads of spaces.
Perfect way to enjoy great company,..was taken to have lunch by friends, and wasn't disappointed.. I had the cromer crab..salad new potatoes,..sorry there isn't any photographic shots of the food,..I'm old school ..I eat before I think about a camera,..but it was super delicious..the rest had an array of sausage and mash,..seafood platter,...and a good old pint of prawns... I had food envy, even though mine was ,like I said... delicious ..great way to be entertained,..very clean.. Service was quick,..but not rushed....and payment,...was thanks to my dear friends,..but would I recommend...yes I would...highly!! Parking: Suitable for any age...or wheel chair,..buggy....perfect size for the location
Stopped off for a pint or two on my bike ride Didn't have food but the menu looked amazing I'll be back for some at some point!. Beer was good, plenty of options and the staff were polite and friendly. Looking forward to going back, have already told the wife. Kid-friendliness: Kids park available.
Main meals were absolutely lovely, we had pork belly but the crackling was overdone and inedible and sea bass. My treacle tart dessert was overdone and only had a little bit of ice cream to go with it. Service was the biggest let down, very slow and not attentive.Food: 4/5
We had a fabulous Sunday roast at The Ship with a friend who was visiting for the weekend. It was the first time we’d eaten at the pub and it definitely won’t be the last. The quality and generosity of the roast beef and lamb more than justified the £17-18 price tag; and we didn’t even need to ask for extra gravy, which is rare. Service was excellent and the pub itself is lovely and cosy inside. Perfect after a walk around the lagoon.
Bustling with happy diners, this pub - one of the Deben Inns - is friendly and welcoming. Today’s lunch was 14-hour brisket with mushrooms in a thick gravy and perfect dumplings soft, but with a crispy top. This kind of comfort food on a truly awful, cold, windy, and rainy day is a baseline for all other dining: if it’s not this good, it’s just not up to snuff.
We came here for an evening meal. We really enjoyed the food and our pre meal walk along the orwell. Lovely location Vegetarian options: Backed common bears really good. There was a vegan burger and a veggie ravioli dish to choose aswell and a few veggie starters .
