Now this is for me a special experience. I loved Sherlock Holmes since I was a kid, I’ve been in the museum once in 2012, now that I’ve been again I felt the same thrill as I did 10 years ago. Sherlock represented so much for me that the fictional house in Baker Street has become something more than just a museum. Hopefully I will go again in 10 years with the same happiness as the last two times. It’s a pity that they don’t allow you to sit down in the chairs with the hats like they did in the past though.
The Sherlock Holmes museum was a nice treat. I suggest making reservations online, so you don't have to stand in the long lines to buy tickets. Since we had a reservation, we did not have to wait in the long line. The museum was full of information regarding Sherlock Holmes and his mystery solving skills. It was very entertaining to take a peek into the great detective's house. I enjoyed the wax figures on the top floor. I just wish they didn't let so many people in the museum at one time since it is very small and narrow.
The fact the actual 221b is a Sherlock Museum is a 5/5 thing by itself. The museum is quite small, so I believe they only allow 15 people in at once, but there is no time limit to how long you can be in the museum for, you can take your time. It took about 35 minutes to go through it myself. You have to arrive 10-15 min early. This museum is ALL about the book. Nothing regarding or relating to the show will be found here, as expected if you know anything about this museum. I haven’t read the books yet, seen the show but still enjoyed the museum since I know some things about book Sherlock. It can be enjoyed if you’ve only seen the show, but there is a TON of book references everywhere. It’s full of it entirely. There are two/three levels of stairs. There are no ladders. The gift shop was great. I went with myself and a date, it was £30 for two. I’m not sure I’d recommend this for more than two people since it gets expensive and doesn’t feel worth it for that much money unless you truly love and are obsessed with Sherlock. Definitely a thing to cross off a bucket list though, to say you visited 221b!
Fantastic little museum that I’ve visited a few times. What makes me write this review was the young man that led our tour today. He was clearly very enthusiastic about Sherlock Holmes and knowledgable on the subject. His passion for the detective was clear and made the tour very enjoyable. The museum itself is small but filled with wonderful items and rooms. This is a must for anyone that is a fan of Sherlock Holmes :
Worth a visit for Sherlock fans - focused entirely on the books rather than the TV show Quite a small and quaint museum. There is a little bit of a tour at the beginning of the time slot and gives an explaination of the characters and the surrounding. There is a few floors to explore, it's best to ask the staff about the stories as they are really good at explaining. Best to book tickets in advance otherwise you could be waiting a while. Good gift shop with lots of souvenirs.
Definitely worth a visit for any Sherlock Holmes fan. However keep in mind that it's based on the books not the movie or series. The house is pretty small and can get crowded however still worth the visit. Please note it is not wheelchair accessible as there are no lifts, only narrow stairs. Also very close to Regent Park and Madame Tussaud.
good place to visit, nice shop by the way, with ancient London decoration. good souvenir to buy, books and lot of things. the only Point is that most of the object sold there are made in china, which make the experience a little bit poor. I mean I didn't come to London to take a souvenir made in china even if it's a good quality, I need a story, I need authenticity, I need feeling. I highly recommend this museum if you're a big fan of Sherlock Holmes like me.
What a fun tiny museum. Things to keep in mind . Buy your tickets online with a certain time of your entry OR you will have to stand outside in the general admission line. I'm so thankful we had an entry time. The museum consists of 4 levels in an old flat. Each level has 2 rooms. You must be able to climb stairs. You start with a guide on the 2nd floor level to give you an amazing fun into. Then you will go to the next 3 levels on your own. Very narrow steps. The entire tour is about 45 min. I think they allow about 20 in at a time.
The Sherlock Holmes Museum is a very nice museum, with many features calling back to fictional stories and tales written by Arthur Conan Doyle, and cinema works as well. The staff was friendly and there is a nice little souvenir shop next to it. I highly recommend stopping here if you’re on Baker Street.Visited onWeekdayWait time30–60 minReservation recommendedNot sure
I watched the TV series Sherlock Holmes before I went to the museum. It was honestly a fairly short visit and the interior was not as big as other standard museums. But I’d say it’s still worth going if you are a big fan of Sherlock Holmes! Recommend buying tickets beforehand.
