Has been one of our favourite restaurants in St Ives for many years, disappointing that they do not have the glass cabinet with fresh daily seafood and meat options anymore and I have especially missed the fresh salmon which I don’t think is coming back. However, the Fish and chips are the best in town and the mussels are incredible, the menu and specials board still has a great variety but would say a few more options for mains are needed, although the small plates are very nice.
I'm really struggling to give this more than 3 stars which is a shame because of all the reviews we read which was one of the reasons we ate here. The place is big and has a real 'tourist' feel to it. The service was a bit all over the place. We had 6 oysters to start with and they came on a slate plate - by the time we had finished the ice they came on had melted and was all over the table. Nobody cleaned it up so we had to! The seafood chowder was fine. I had fish pie as main and it was good. My husband had the Sole and said it was OK. There was nothing wrong with the whole meal - it was just average.
We ate at loads of places during our little trip to St Ives & this was the best restaurant we ate in. The mussels stood out though they were served with chips but was much better with bread we ordered that separately. Tasted fresh & the sauce was amazing. Best mussels ever.
On Nov 4, 2022, my wife, our younger daughter and I came here thru word of the mouth. All the seafood mains we ordered were the best in class. Service was prompt and customer-friendly. We got great value for money.
Excellent food. Good menu choices ,fair pricing and good sized portions. Great service. Staff were very helpful with our request for gluten free and lactose free options. Really nice coffee too. Would definitely visit again when in St Ives next. Dietary restrictions: Waitress was very knowledgeable about gluten free and lactose free dishes on the menu. She also said they could adjust the ingredients of some dishes to cater for this. We had moules mariniere as a gluten and lactose free dish and one as a regular dish. Both were delicious.
I will rate this place with a 5/5 according to my scale. Food quality: 2.6/3 Ambiance of the place: 0.3/0.5 Authenticity/ innovativeness of the place: 0.4/0.5 Value/Price of the place: 0.4/0.5 Service of the place: 0.4/0.5 Total: 4.1/5 We ordered a pair of seared scallops with seaweed butter and porthilly oysters, the smoked mackerel fishcake, potted Cornish crab, and the mussels and chips. Other than the crab, which was okay, everything else was outstanding. The oysters were fresh and complemented by the onions, the seaweed butter under the scallops were amazing, and the sauce of the mussels was creamy and a delightful complement to the mussels. This is one of the best seafood places in St. Ives, and I would recommend everyone to come and try their food.
This lovely cafe was advised from a local fisherman and he was right. The place is really nice , situated in the centre of the Town. Menu has a good selection of starter, mains and sides . The majority are fish and seafood, good selection of vegetables dishes and some meat based ones. The fish and seafood were perfectly cooked, tasty and delicious. Portions are very good and and prices are right for this high quality. Staff is welcoming, warm and very kind. A very good experience
Pleasant place for lunch! Especially recommend to orders mussels & chips here! To my own surprise they were really good when comparing to the ones I tried in France and Belgium which are famous for cooking them. However, oysters weren’t good, seemed like a waste of money they were over salted and each costed us 3.5£.
Room was quite stuffy and had lots of small flies. Service quite poor unfortunately as they seemed short staffed. Cocktails were lovely however. All our food was very nice although quite pricy.
Beautiful aesthetics, relaxed atmosphere and fancy without pretentiousness. The waitress was so patient, calming and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious and each dish had a uniqueness to it. Very impressedFood: 5/5
