I can only describe this Sainsbury's as an absolute shambles. I live within 5 minutes walk, and for better or worse, I do use it regularly because it's walkable and also it's on my way home from work.nnThe underground car park is a reasonable if scruffy start, but it is really downhill from there. Usually you will find one or both of the two escalators to be non-functioning. They were out of action for weeks around Christmas 2023, and now one of them is broken again! I think most of the profit from this store goes towards paying engineers to come out and fix the escalators again. There are two lifts, but because of the issues with the escalators, large queues will form, as the lifts are then the only way to access the car park although it is actually quicker to walk outside the front door and around the outside of the store and in through the vehicle entrance to the car park.nnStaffing levels are appalling, and they have shut down almost all of the staffed checkouts now, with the result that you're forced to use the self checkouts. Unfortunately there are several problems here. There are not enough staff to cover the constant problems on the self checkouts with alcohol or medicine needing authorising, or mis-weighed items often they seem to have the weight coded incorrectly in the system meaning they stall the checkout process. Many times I have seen that a number of the self checkout stations will be out of action completely. Due to these issues, large queues will form at the self checkouts.nnRecently, as there are almost no checkout staff and due to the issues with self checkout, I decided to use the Smart Shop whereby you self scan the items and pay at the end. However, VERY often there are no smart shop handsets left, and/or the dedicated smart shop checkouts are broken down which I have noted on multiple separate occasions. Recently I used the smart shop app on my phone as there were no handsets left. All went well until I got to the self checkout and went to transfer my virtual basket to the shop till, which crashed the till, and then the same happened at the next till. I had to find a third till and then scan it all through manually as a self checkout order.nnAround a week ago I was in the store, and a woman working on the self checkouts was repeatedly shouting at customers so loudly that she could be heard on the other side of the store.nnAlmost every time I come here, it literally takes twice as long to access the store, put a shop through, pay and leave, as it would at Tesco, Aldi, Morrison's, or Lidl. Using this store is a highly stressful and appalling experience, and I recommend avoiding this place.
Excellent supermarket all round. There are two levels of underground parking dedicated to the supermarket so parking is no issue. Always have trolleys and baskets available. There are ATMs located at the street entrance. There is also a photo booth for passport photos etc.nThere is a decent sized homewares section for all rooms in the house, the kitchen and bedding selections are really good and the seasonal stock celebrating Christmas, Halloween, Summer etc is awesome. Clothing for women, men and also children. The women’s section has a change room which is handy.nThere are always good deals across food and grocery items. The aisles are wide to accommodate two shopping trolleys side by side with no issue.nThere are self checkout options available for both trolleys and baskets
Very nice shopping center with products on shelves properly full and prices on.nLots of choices of everything, easy to find what you are looking through your shopping list. Good parking and appropriate size to move between corridors.
For a large store there is a lot of staff and they are available to help. Very clean store, free parking for 3 hours is good for heading to the City Centre shopping before fetching groceries.
The prices are not too bad, but the way they have arranged the aisles makes it hard to find specific items. I don't like wasting time searching for items.
