Absolutely loved traveling by hovercraft! Such a smooth transition from land to sea and so exciting! Not the cheapest but well worth the experience for a visit.
A fantastic service, by far the best way to travel between Portsmouth and Ryde if you don't want to take a car. The ride itself is surprisingly smooth, only taking 10 minutes which is pretty fast! Getting to Portsmouth from Southsea is easy as you get on a bus which is waiting outside when the hovercraft arrives. There was a slight delay going back as one of the hovercraft was having a slight technical problem, however this only amounted to a 5 minuete delay, and I noticed to other craft working about 20 minuets later. Only negative was that Southsea terminal could do with an upgrade as it feels a bit outdated and cramped, however fine for only a short wait Ryde terminal was better. It's a shame that this is the only regular hovercraft service left in the world!
Absolutely loved this. Use it or lose it. It would be criminal to lose it.
Fast and efficient. Staff were friendly. Overall a good experience. Crossing took about 10 minutes and getting on and off wasn’t a chore. If you don’t have a car then this is the obvious choice! I would use it again.
GREAT SERVICE FRIENDLY STAFF unlike Wightlink who are so grumpy. Also Hovercraft quickest way to Isle of Wight 10 minute crossing.
I haven’t yet ridden on it although it looks like something to tick off the bucket list looks pretty efficient unless there’s windy weather…we’ll behaved dogs welcomed on board
New hovercraft. Very nice and smelt of leather. Just went for a ride over to southsea on a hovercraft experience. Enjoyed it.
Came to see the Hovercraft, fantastic to watch, spent a few hours here. the guys in the ticket office were friendly and helpful. I took a trip over to Portsmouth just for the ride, great experience. There was plenty around to see and do with the pier with trains and cars going along, lovely gardens, the harbour, and a number of cafes and places to eat. Had a lovely day here.
They don't offer online or phone assistance on weekends- contact number answers rather unhelpfully that they only operate on weekdays. Why not run the hovercraft service only on weekdays too? Any issues on weekend and you have to personally go to the port to get it solved. Oh and when you get to the port at Ryde there's this extremely unhappy and rude lady at the desk that makes life hell for everyone she services. I watched her being terse and negative to all the foreign passengers in front of me, it was actually embarrassing to watch as an island resident. Not professional.
Used this for a little shopping visit to Gunwhalf Quays and also as a treat for our little boy! We all loved it! Very quick crossing and social distancing followed well. We even got a slightly earlier crossing back. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we'd definitely recommend and fly with them again!
