The most fantastic hospital that has left me lost for words. The staff are incredible. Spotlessly clean, lovely food and kindness beyond their duty. I have nothing left to say about how fantastic they all are. My husband is going into a Care Home tomorrow but if I had a magic wand, I'd want him to stay in Ruthin Hospital. Thank you xx
What can I say really other than absolutely heartbroken with the lack of care to a really close relative of mine. He had fractured his hip so was sent to Ruthin Community hospital for rehabilitation to get him up walking. First day he was sat out of bed in a chair, we thought how fantastic and we were hopefull that the staff would get him up walking. There is a gym that makes you feel wow, this is going to be much better than the hospital, there is a beautiful large room with a big television and outdoor space, we all felt lucky that he was in the best place and that he would be returning home.nWell first week we were postive but then cracks begin to show, he wasn't being shaved, his clothes or pyjamas were not being used, he looked dishevelled every time we visited. We spoke to Beth the manager, who listened and reassured us that things would get better, so we had hope. Sadly nothing changed, every time we visited it was the same, he was in bed dishevelled his chair had been taken away and we were informed that he had developed a pressure sore on his buttock. We were told to buy a bed with no mattress as the hospital would provide one. We were told what alterations were required so he could come home, we did exactly what was asked. Week after week we were informed that he would be home soon with a package of care, we were informed that we were waiting on social services to set up the package. Weeks passed with no contact from social, he was deteriorating before our eyes, there was no form of rehabilitation, he was now bed bound. Every visit we challenged why he wasn't being rehabilitated, only to be told it was his choice and that they could not force him as he had capacity to make that decision. We highlighted that we understood the issue with capacity, however what we didn't agree with was that the plan was to return home and get him back to baseline, the plan was never to be nursed in bed. Each visit, his bed was tilted at the bottom so he could not get out of bed, this we felt was a form of restraint with no DOLS in place. His mood was deteriorating, his weight was declining and we thought he was near to the end.nEventually he was discharged home with bridging the gap, we are absolutely shocked that we were told he did not require a hospital mattress, but he had no mattress at home, a loan of a hospital mattress was agreed. He is walking with a frame, he is motivated to get stronger and he is cooperative with all carers. He has not required the sara hoist once, carers were informed by Ruthin that the sara hoist was to be used at all times and this is clearly not the case.nWe can accept that sometimes he could be stubborn but this was purely down to lack of motivation. We discussed with Beth our thoughts about him lacking motivation and we felt that carers should be motivating and encouraging, which Beth agreed. We expressed why have a gym why have a lovely room were patients can sit etc.nMoving forward we feel that rehabilitation at Ruthin community hospital requires evaluation really because that certainly was not our experience

Visiting a friend there I was struck by how clean and friendly the hospital was My friend is very happy there and tells me the food is good
