"The Royal Oak is a charming 19th century pub in the village of River near Dover in Kent. Formed from 18th century flint cottages we have been serving the village for over 150 years. A friendly warm welcome compliments our range of real ales, lagers, ciders and stout. From a morning coffee or hot chocolate to a late night spirit we will look after you. Come read the papers, enjoy a cool beer on a sunny afternoon in the garden or a warming cask ale in front of the fire on a winter's night."

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying for 1 night, quick sightseeing trip of Dover Lovely room, no TV, who cares!! Room was impeccable, clean, updated bath and a comfy bed We where also lucky to be there on trivia night!! And a full English breakfast was included for the price I paid Would highly recommend!!
Had a lovely afternoon at the royal oak today for a friend's birthday. The food is just amazing and staff so friendly and helpful. Will be dining there again can't wait Food & drinks: Amazing
Good honest home cooked food, but not just your 'Hunters Chicken' type menu, they do a Liver and Bacon which is awesome! The decor has been refreshed in the last couple of years and the staff are lovely. There really is no complaints about the Royal Oak. We visit there for the quiz nights mostly, and love the place. EDIT: We were down there again tonight for the quiz. I had the steak and kidney pie and mash and peas. Damn, it's all so good. Perfect light crumbly pastry, juicy filling with a perfect balance of ingredients, with just the right amount of gravy inside and out. The mash is rustic and buttery. Price is on point too. Add a few pints and several rounds of quiz questions and it's all perfection. The Royal Oak is the place to visit. EDIT: The Royal Oak is a great place and we're still regulars! Try the Steak and Kidney pudding with mash.. Still my fave.

Me and my work mates stayed here from a Mon to Fri, working in the area. The rooms were spotless, warm & comfortable. They made us breakfast bags every morning which were superb. The staff were extremely hospitable. Off road parking, which is always a bonus with work vans. Good bar, good food.
Rooms very clean and good for short stop over but very small if thinking of long stay. Safety: Good Food & drinks: Excellent
A smart pub with accommodation. Food is always excellent. The scampi and the meat pie are excellent as is the service. Parking is extremely limited on site but you can usually find a spot nearby.Service: 5/5
