Stopped for Sunday roast, lovely meal beef cooked perfectly. Not everyone would like pink but it was beautiful. Portion adequate however pricey. Service friendly and you are allowed to bring your pet as long as is clean and well behaved- thanks god ours was
The food as always was very nice. Unfortunately when we visited it was extremely busy - standing room only. Although there where lots of staff the service was very slow.
Fantastic pub with a great atmosphere, the staff are really friendly and very personable. This is easily one of the best pubs I have ever been to. The fish and chips were to die for. My fiance had steak and kidney pudding which I was jealous of, but both meals were fantastic. Double fried proper chips with noth meals is something that takes longer, but tastes so much better. The ice cream my daughter had was amazing and she's obsessed with honeycomb, so being able to have it as an add on is a great touch. Thwaites have done an awful lot in the past couple of years to improve their pubs and hopefully it'll start paying back in spades once we get over covid. Will definitely be coming back again.
Food was lovely and staff were too, very accomodating and helpful. Some other customers didn't seem to notice the staff rushing around and kept calling them over, what a shame.
Wow the food was delicious! Everything was so flavoursome. I must say its been along time since I've had prawns at a resturant that actually managed to cook them to perfection! Very enjoyable meal, the service was very good too.. though I would say and I do apply this to lots of places if the drinks glasses are NEARLY empty please check if any more drinks are required, its a pain waiting ages with an empty glass.

Had delicious dinner today with a friend. She had the steak and kidney pudding and I had the cheese and onion pie, both were perfect!! Staff were lovely and I highly recommend the royal Oak!! Can't wait to go again and try the steak pudding this time it's huge and so s my stomach!!!
I can't believe that we have never been here before! When we called for Sunday lunch I think we were lucky to get a table, it was probably because we were early, it was certainly very busy when we were leaving. They have an excellent gluten free menu with plenty of choice, both of our meals were faultless and the staff were excellent. All of this is in a lovely cosy setting, we had an excellent lunch and will definitely be back.
This has become our go-to place to have lunch. Food excellent whether you want a range of starters for 'tapas' or a full meal. All great quality food. Excellent host and service, plus cosy traditional setting.
We had a fabulous family meal here on New Year's Eve. The only reason for 4 and not 5 stars was initially were seated round a table for 6 and we were a party of 7 and it took some time for another chair to be brought to our table. Also, there was a very loud disruptive table next to us. Fortunately, they were on dessert when we arrived so eventually we relaxed. That said, the food was exceptional, it was great not having a set menu on such a busy night. The service was good too. Overall, a great night one to be repeated. Thank you to all staff.
