Story

While HS-1 Cafe Bar, at the Royal Hotel, has youthful ‘attitude,’ it is popular with all ages and features a stylish, modern, international menu.

Specialities include a pot of fresh mussels with a choice of white wine and garlic cream or tomato and basil sauce. Fresh Monkfish is also an excellent local treat - great value, too.

There is a good range of steaks, pasta, wraps, salads, authentic curries and a fabulous burger.

Vegetarians are particularly well catered for at HS-1, with at least eight menu selections, in addition to fish choices.

I stayed here for three nights this week and I have to start by saying, I have been absolutely blown away with the cost of hotels in both Skye and Lewis. This room we picked had a harbor view, the room was four meters square with far to much furniture in it for the size and a bathroom which looked like it came from the eights, it was however clean. £300 per night, you would think with paying this kind of money you would get something pretty decent in Scotland, but no, it was actually pretty poor value for money. I'll put this aside...nIn terms of the staff, first class. Really great people, very friendly, more than happy to help, a real asset to the company. The restaurant was also really great, possibly a wee touch expensive for the environment, however the food was good, but nothing really more than what you would expect from a traditional harbor pub grub, hence I thought it was a wee touch rich. Had they to drop everything on the menu by a couple of pound, then it would be perfect.nTo summarise, when speaking to people within the industry on the island, it appears that they have no competition hence they can charge these prices. If you wish a holiday to the inner and outer Hebrides, be prepared to spend. Would I stay here again, mmm. I would look around to see if I could find better accommodation, better room etc, however it is a nice wee place albeit dated in the rooms department.
Excellent service throughout, I couldn't have wished for treatment any better than it had been, thoroughly recommended.nWe were there a week, but would happily have stayed a month!
I have been a vegetarian for 45 years and this I can honestly say was the best vege meal yet. Everything that I liked and nothing that I don't like. Excellent size portion. A definite 12 out of 10
Great location for walking the Hebridean Way. The B&B owners goes above and beyond competitors by offering evening meals and are very friendly and attentive.
The hotel is a bit older, but comfortable enough. The room was clean and the beds were comfy. Is it a little dated? - Yes, but you're also on an island that is harder to get to and probably gets less visitors than the mainland. The hotel is reasonable for a few nights. As long as its clean and the plumbing works, I call it a win, which this was. The shower worked fine, the bath products smelled heavenly, and the heated towel rack was great once I could figure out how to get it working. We only had a view of the parking lot and not the castle, but it was fine. The staff were all welcoming and the breakfast had good options. I would return to the hotel if I were on the island again.
