If you're child is very very poorly you will have to fight tooth and nail for them to take you seriously. Be prepared for notes to be full of inaccuracies and also to stand up to consultants when they misdiagnose. Mothers are very often negated and patronised here too. Dads more likely to be taken seriously. It's sad but I think it's a lot to do with the pressures they're under. Little things get missed and overlooked which could be key in your child's recovery. We did get the help we needed but it was an extremely stressful experience. Whilst discussing other mothers' experiences on the ward they also has similar tales to tell. Be alert be aware and be assertive here. It doesn't matter in the end what they think of us as parents what matters is that our children recover. So don't bother about them giving you respect just do what's needed to ensure your child receives the proper care and attention they should in the most polite courteous way possible. I sincerely hope that after reading this review that consultants will give more respect to, listen to mums and also be more compassionate.
