I really enjoy the feel of this comfortable little place and the food and coffee I've had here has been pretty good. It's the place I choose for a simple lunch or a relaxing coffee when I'm in the area. I must admit, though, that the service can be extraordinarily slow at busy times and the shabby chic interior might be a bit more shabby than chic these days.

I cycled to the Route 2 café today (via cycle path and back streets) as it's bike-friendly and a pleasant 4-mile ride from Exeter. I go there because, though the decor is 'basic pub', the staff are friendly and professional, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is good. The young chef makes the best pancake brekkie in the West Country! His American pancakes really ARE home-made, fluffy and delicious - a rare thing in the UK? Staff will do all they can to oblige you. For example, if you ask, you can have your pancakes and berries topped with cool yogurt instead of the ubiquitous maple syrup. In my view prices for meals are good as it's real value for money, but 'coffee and cake' comes expensive. A good place to chill.😊
