About
Passionate about food, farming and the community
Story
Roots was established in 2008 through the need to improve the sustainability of the family farm and a desire to sell quality local food to the community. The farm ran by the Hutchinson family is a mixed beef and arable enterprise based at Home Farm, which is part of the Arncliffe Estate.
Roots is a social hub, giving locals the chance to chat with their neighbours and for those from the town to enjoy a taste of the countryside. We are pleased to offer a local outlet for the fantastic produce our farming neighbours are diversifying into throughout Yorkshire and the North East.
We would like to make all who visit feel part of this family farm, as they share our little piece of rural Yorkshire in all its seasonal glory.

In a word - EXCELLENT. Considering this is a small cafe in the middle of nowhere, the fact that people were happy to queue and wait to be served, tells a story in its self. Fantastic food, cakes & drinks with brilliant, helpful service. 25 out of 10. Cyclists love this place too. A really good pot of tea 2 actually & a lime & ginger cake, not much of photo, I needed cake. No waiting for photos.
Great place for a lunch or tea/coffee break. Surprisingly not that busy at weekends. Cafe offers delicious farm food - defo recommend trying it! Also can buy some food in the shop!
Went for a decent flat white but too milky. The menu did not match the one on the website so we're a bit disappointed. Parking: 30-40+ spaces available
What a find. Recommended by a friend, we finally got to visit 18.6.22. Absolutely fantastic food, freshly prepared and totally delicious. The staff are so friendly and attentive. Mary and Berry were great. We loved it and definitely will be going back. Great farm shop too. Highly recommended.
A real gem! We enjoyed the Farmhouse and Traditional breakfasts and both were outstanding. The ingredients were of the highest quality, cooked perfectly and the service was top notch, even at a busy time. Similarly the farm shop is excellent and really well priced. Can’t recommend enough!
Lovely place to stop if you don't fancy a service station, breakfast was great and the cakes looked amazing, staff were friendly, some little craft shops are there as well Kid-friendliness: Children can have small size meals Parking: Plenty of parking nearby
