Story

West Mersea Lifeboat Station currently operates a B class, Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat named 'Just George'. She and her volunteer crew members provide a 24/7 rescue service for the River Blackwater and surrounding areas including Mersea Island, Brightlingsea, Bradwell, Tollesbury, Heybridge Basin and Maldon. The majority of 'shouts' (callouts) are to leisure craft. Other 'shouts' are often to assist commercial fishing boats, carry out medical evacuations at high tide from Mersea, Osea and Northey Islands and even to assist cars which become stranded on the Strood causeway onto Mersea.

The Lifeboat Station and Gift Shop is open to the public every weekend from April to the end of October from 1130-1600. During opening hours visitors have the opportunity to engage in a tour of the lifeboat.
