Really friendly and welcoming service here, took me a while to decide what I wanted but the waitress was patient and understanding and very accommodating to my diet. Lots of vegetarian options available, definitely recommend the vegetarian Croque Monsieur! Pretty standard coffee, the quality of the espresso wasn't anything substantial but it had been prepared well. Only downside was not being able to see the river from the table as unfortunately there's a bar in the way. Still great for people watching!

I've been living in Lewes for about 4 months. I've eaten pretty much every place and everything on the menus. For me, the Riverside cafe offers the best rolls, sandwiches for take away. Loads to choose from. All around £3.50, generous amounts of filling and very tasty. Salad fillings are always fresh, the relish and dressings very tasty. I'd say if you don't have time to sit down on your lunch break and you want something healthy and very tasty for a great price, you won't find better in Lewes for filled rolls and sandwiches.

I'm a college student visiting from the U.S., and was in Lewes for a little over two weeks. I wandered into the Riverside Cafe (Downstairs) on the first day, and kept coming back after that. The staff go above and beyond to be both helpful and friendly, food comes out promptly, and the food is delicious. It's not fancy (posh?), but everything is tasty and fresh. I had multiple sandwiches, toasties, milkshakes, and smoothies over my 16 days here, and if I'm ever back in Lewes, this is where I'll go first. Shoutout to Anthony, Jade, Stuart, and the rest, you were one of the best parts of my trip!

We were a group of 3 I ordered 3 meals & drinks after 20 minutes I went to ask where our food was the person who took my order asked me what I had ordered I started to get worried when he began looking through all the orders I returned to my table and a waitress came out apologies but our order had been put to the back and offered a refund or round of drinks because if their incompetence we chose to have a refund she had deducted the drinks but I questioned that another member of staff just told her give him the drinks money as well I think this is badly run and organized never would I eat here again. Unprofessional.
