Story

The River & Rowing Museum is one of the U.K’s leading regional museums. Situated in picturesque Henley-on-Thames, the museum has a permanent collection exploring the River Thames, the international sport of rowing, the town of Henley and the Wind in the Willows. In addition, the museum plays host to a number of visiting exhibitions, working with partners such as the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, the Hayward Gallery, Southbank and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
The Museum is a registered educational charity, and welcomes over 100,000 visitors per year, including 20,000 children and adults who enjoy time in the purpose built learning centre.

The new John Piper gallery is wonderful - a brilliant overview of this great artist's work. They have temporary exhibitions too which make the year's entry pass really useful as you can return as often as you like. The cafe was nice, and the staff were friendly but could have been more attentive.

Better than expected. Kids had a great time rubbing around the exhibitions, and particularly the wind in the willows and imagination play areas. Cafe had some great cakes/pastries and food looked good but less ideal if you just want a quick (inexpensive) bite.

Visited on 12th February with my daughter on 1st anniversary of my Mum's death when we both took the day off work, enjoying a peaceful riverside walk and ending with tea and cake at what we thought was a very attractive venue with tables and chairs outside. Admittedly a cool day but there was some sunshine, and we preferred to sit outside. We were told no service was offered outside so had to accept tea in paper cups and a slice of cake in a paper bag. No serviettes or cutlery offered. We felt like the poor relations and had to pay FULL PRICE for the privilege. Disappointing end to what was supposed to be a cheering afternoon. Sent a tweet and was told Catering Team would email me. Heard nothing since even though I sent another tweet .....

Excellent place to bring a little one, the cafe serves delicious food and the exhibitions are for everyone in the family. The wind in the willows trail is a lovely Interactive walk through.

Went to see new Finding Form: Barbara Hepworth exhibition which is excellent. Very calm & soothing. Learnt a lot about her art. Well worth a visit. Also viewed refreshed John Piper gallery with Death in Venice display. Lots to see & do at the R&RM with Wind in the Willows interactive experience for the kids on half term too. Plus the Rowing River & Town galleries too. A great day out.
Not expensive either.
