Beautiful castle.. easy parking. Lovely 360 views lovely inside and from views across the river. No major info centre just easy access. Lovely place and definitely worth a visit if staying anywhere on the north Welsh coast. Been this place a number of times just as Lovely in the night
Whenever my mother would return home to her native Wales and head towards the seaside town of Rhyl me and her would drive past ruins of Rhuddlan Casle. My mum would often tell me about how when she was little she would often go and play within the castle grounds. In 2024 I asked if it was possible to go and see the ruins, she agreed.nnWhen we arrived I at first was unaware that you could go inside the castle grounds as I thought it would be cornered off like so many others but I was surprised that you could come up and explore it. The history of the castle was fascinating. I was surprised to learn about Madog ap Llywelyn and his uprising which I didn’t know about.nnFor anyone interested in the history of Wales this is an absolute great starting place.
Fantastic castle part ruins at the front but the back side has plenty to explore with multiple levels. There's large steal and stone steps taking you up to the top level. Also in the centre of the castle there's a large grass area we let our little dog have a run on it as dogs on lead's are welcome in the lower section of the castle. There's a small carpark at the visitors centre and a small gift shop. The chap who was running the entrance was really nice. We spent about 40 minutes and saw everything.
Rhuddlan Castle is an impressive historical monument that offers a fascinating glimpse into medieval history. Its well-preserved ruins, standing on the banks of the River Clwyd, are a testament to the power and architecture of its time. For history lovers, it's a great place to walk around and explore.nHowever, our experience wasn't perfect. We were surprised that the castle opened later than advertised, which disrupted our schedule. Another major disappointment was the lack of public toilets, which is very inconvenient for such a popular tourist attraction.nDespite these issues, Rhuddlan Castle is still worth a visit. It's a place where you can be transported back in time and admire a monumental work that has stood the test of time.
Interesting castle history set in nice countryside overlooking a river. The castle is part ruin, but there's plenty to see and there are information boards explaining the construction of the castle and its historical significance. Modern steps have been installed so you can access the top of the castle, worth the walk up for the views. Free parking at the entrance where you can purchase your entry ticket. £6.50 per adult
