After being recommended from a friend I called up the shop asking to book in for repair as I was having a problem with the derailleur on my bike, I was told to pop in - I came in the following day and was greeted and served straight away. Very friendly bloke who Squeezed in my derailleur repair amongst being super busy. He was really knowledgeable and I was able to have a good chat With him During the process and he also gave some general tips and advice for aftercare and maintenance. The price was very reasonable and he ensured I was happy with the work done before I took my bike away. Will be returning For anything I need in the future.
I wrote the review below 5 years ago. I have had consistent good service from the shop ever since. Recently I needed some work doing on the brakes of my folding bike. I took it in on a Thursday and asked what the chances were of having it back the following week. I didn’t have to wait that long. Everything was done in time for me to collect it on Saturday. A perfect job, done quickly, at a reasonable price. Fantastic shop! They brought my 25 year old Claud Butler back to life a year ago, and have done minor repairs on two bikes for me since. The service you get is helpful, knowledgeable, extremely good value, eccentric and very funny.
I used Recycle for a while and was beginning to have my doubts when he charged me and my friend exactly the same price for work that he said needing doing, £200. Still I ignored it and continued using him because he had always seemed amenable and I wanted to support a local business. He told me I needed new brake blocks and unbeknownst to me he fitted second hand obsolete ones. It only came to light when I went back to get new brake blocks for the ones I had worn out and he couldn’t source them. Since he had fitted something that was useless and not told me they were second-hand I asked him to replace them. I thought it reasonable that I would only pay for the labour. He didn’t, he started screaming at me saying various abuse. “You’re always complaining”, I had never complained before. I tried to reason it out with him that I’d been a loyal customer and did it seem right what he had done but got nowhere. He had my bike so I ended up having to pay for some more brakes. All I can say is this man is charming whilst he is robbing you but will totally change if you find him out. Save yourself time and money and go elsewhere.
The guy is friendly and talks a good talk- slays all the big businesses, talks of decades of experience and seems like a nice guy but at the end of the day is expensive and also doesn't know his stuff- was unable to identify the problem, took the bike to another shop and they were able to immediately identify the problem and charged half the labour cost that re cycle engineering charge, don't recommend this place. Completely understand the mixed reviews- he's a nice guy and I'm sure is able to fix simple problems, it's an interesting shop- never seen anything like it before id prefer to go to other places that aren't so expensive and know their stuff inside out!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Suddenly invents charges out of thin air - like trying to charge me 'storage charges' which he had not previously advised me of. Didn't give me warning that they had started to be incurred either - just conveniently leaves a voicemail 7 days after he started charging them advising that there was now an extra £70 on my £350 bill. I expect more from people I am spending that much money on a bike restoration with. What a joker. Seemed like a nice friendly guy when I first took my bike in to be assessed for repairs. Wasn't the most urgent in getting back to me when promised with an initial assessment of the work needed so didn't think things were so urgent on my part either. Went back in to talk through different parts etc and agree the work, all well and good. Unfortunately due to a last minute emergency on my part, I was unable to pick up the bike when planned just prior to a week's holiday. Suddenly I have a voicemail from the guy telling me that I am incurring storage charges which I had not previously been advised of at all. When I pointed out he had not advised me or warned of these charges, he told me they were all "published on my blog, back in 2011" at the time of writing it is Sept 2013 - why would I know this guy has a blog given he hasn't told me about it?!?!?! Furthermore, the period he used for calculating when storage was chargeable, included the 3 weeks that he had actually been working on my bike!!! What a joker. Avoid this man at all costs and go to a reputable person who knows how to run a business properly rather than trying to rip people off with additional charges he doesn't advise you of.
Very good service and very friendly! So is surprising to read such contradictory reviews, as my experience there was good. Usually I repair my bike myself ball bearing, gears, chain, tyre replacement, etc., so I a kind of know what to do. I was served by a man who seems to be of Indian descent. My opinion is: Prices for spare parts are okay. It seemed unlikely to me that I could save money buying the spare parts somewhere else. The man there also trued my back wheel quickly without a truing fixture and didn't charge for it. I wish we had such bike repair shops in London.
Just go elsewhere, this bloke says he has 30 years of experience and can't even service front suspension let alone rear, absolutely hilarious. Yet, is very condescending and pretentious when talking about bikes, rather ironic. I wasn't interested in using his service but thought I'd pop round to see what it was like - £15-20 labour for putting on a new chain, not accounting for the price of the chain. This is ludicrously extortionate, it would at the -very- most take 5 minutes to fit a chain. Rarely ever leave reviews but this bloke's irked me enough to do so.
I first used Re:cycle when I needed to build up a frame with limited knowledge of bike building. As soon as I entered I was greeted by a enthusiastic, helpful atmosphere and they were able to advise and build me a bike that I use everyday. Through my continued use of the shop they have provided me with excellent service and great conversation. I wouldn't go anywhere else and will continue to give them my custom while I live anywhere near Leeds.
Had a pair of wheels trued here - excellent, quick service overnight and the work was also much cheaper than any other local bike shops, the guy also did a much better job than i've had done before. Very experienced and knowledgeable staff, will be going back for sure.
Great service and really friendly guys! Only needed a small part for my bike but they stopped what they were doing and helped out, didn't over charge either like most big bike places do. If you need a part for an old bike this is the best place to go as they have all sorts of useful bits and bobs.
