About

Turkish Cypriot Restaurant

Story

Raphael’s is a family owned and run restaurant. Our aim is to provide people with the best tasting, health conscious, Mediterranean cuisines.

All of our food is freshly prepared and cooked on the day and with our early to late opening hours every day of the week, people can come in for lunch or dinner or even just come to sit, relax and enjoy a nice cup of tea with a slice of cake.

We also donate a small portion of our profits to host events and activities for the local community. Just like Raphael, who opened the park to provide something to the locals, we aim to bring the community together.

This is a Turkish restaurant with no-kids-after-6pm policy, which in my opinion pretends to be posh and exclusive private club-like establishment!!! I am sorry but you are just a Turkish restaurant with a bit fancier furniture. A father and a young son refused a quick meal at 6.15pm. Appalling. Thankfully there are a ton of other Turkish restaurants in the area who gladly accept kids and families with kids AFTER 6pm!!! If you would like to take your kids to a restaurant to eat after 6pm DO NOT go to this place unless you are comfortable finding an easy answer to the question "Dad, why can't we eat in this restaurant? I am hungry!" You would be deeply disappointed and overwhelmed with the feeling of being absolutely helpless in front of your child. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Had our Wedding Anniversary here a couple of years ago, superb. Went for the lunch special and very disappointed. The offer only allowed you to have a starter and main course, not main course and dessert, bit unfair on those that prefer this option. The portion sizes are very good, we've even said possibly too big to the Manager but overall the place has gone downhill in our opinion over the past year.

I read the numerous reviews that this place was too expensive and I have to agree. I chose this place regardless of the price because we were celebrating a special occasion and the restaurant is placed in a beautiful setting, which was important to me. However, the food served was not at all different from any cheap, high street Turkish or Greek restaurant. The only difference was that the food is arranged much more nicely on the plate. The service was, again, just like any high street place. Actually, no, it was worse at times. Two of the children in our group had asked for the onions in their burgers to be cooked. This was not done, which we just saw as a minor error and asked the waiter to get the onions cooked as we didn't want them to miss out on part of their veg/salad intake. The waiter took the salad away and brought it back again with the onions still uncooked. I'm not sure what change they actually made. In any case, we didn't bother to pursue it any further and got on with our meal. We had a clear impression that they did not care to make any alterations to accommodate their customers. Later, I asked to take the rest of my meal home with me. It was put into a chicken-and-chips style brown paper bag which was already getting soggy as it was brought to the table. It was very bizarre and my group had a good laugh about it. We were also charged an extra £10 for bringing a celebration cake to the restaurant. I thought this was rather absurd but didn't want to spoil our plans so I agreed. I have never been asked to pay extra to bring a cake into a restaurant - in fact, the more upmarket restaurants bend over backwards to accommodate special occasions, often giving a free drink or dessert. Saying that, regular high street restaurants also bend over backwards to accommodate special occasions so this was truly extraordinary. Overall, I felt the service was not befitting of an upscale/ expensive restaurant. The waiters did not make an effort to be friendly and we felt like we were not wanted. We went there for lunch but they have a large notice saying children are not allowed after 6pm - another bizarre assertion. I wouldn't go there again for a special occasion or a casual meal, except for the weekday lunch menu, which is reasonably priced for what is offered. When we left, no one acknowledged us even though I said "thank you" in a loud voice. The restaurant was only half full and the staff were all at the bar/ service area, paying no attention. The food tasted good, as is expected in a Turkish/Cypriot place, and the location and lunch menu are somewhat redemptive.
