Great staff, super friendly and genuinely helpful. What a shame about the hotel though. Firstly, it's a maze, you have to walk a long way to get to most of the rooms. The decor is mismatched and generally old and grubby. I found mould on some corridor walls. The rooms are small, in need of an update and have many broken fixtures and fittings. The beds, in all the rooms I've had, are awful. There does seem to some redecorating going on at the moment Nov 2018 but unless they replace the beds and room furniture too, I probably won't be back. Oh, and the first time I stayed here in March this year, my car was broken into as they attempted to steal it.
I've stayed in this hotel a couple of times and it's not great. This is a shame as the grounds are lovely and it's clear the gym has had some money spent on it. The first time I stayed there was no heating in my room, so was given an electric heater. No offer of a room change. Then the fire alarm went off in the early hours. Not a great start. My room was at the top of the stairs which would've been ok if it wasn't for the floor being so creaky and noisy, and it was clear the fan in the shower had never been cleaned - it was black from dirt and grime. I've had colleagues who had duck tape on the floor in their rooms as there was damage to the flooring. This hotel needs a major refurbishment. If it was half decent I'd stay as the gym is excellent, however I'm afraid it simply isn't. If the hotel
We stayed here for 1 night on 17/8/19. What we liked: - The grounds are impressive. - Breakfast was excellent - good selection of cold and cooked items. What we didn’t like: - Hotel generally needs updating. Having said that, they were doing some improvement works to the corridor carpets, so hopefully they continue to update the whole hotel. - Water pressure for the shower wasn’t great. Felt like a trickle! We went with friends and they had also noted the same in their rooms. - Toilet seat was broken. Seems like they need to keep on top of general maintenance. I’m sure housekeeping would have noticed this when cleaning. I can’t comment on the leisure facilities as we didn’t use them.
Really mixed impression of this place. The staff were friendly and helpful. The lobby, restaurant and bar were comfortable and clean. The food was hit and miss, some dishes were really delicious and proper nice but others seemed to be microwave from frozen! The rooms are approx ten miles away from anywhere else. Mine was simple yet comfortable and the bathroom was newly refurbished but my friends next door had holes in walls and a bathroom from 1950 east Berlin . My personal experience was 4/5 but I think the hotel overall is a 3/5.
We can't grumble too much as we only paid a cheap rate for bed and breakfast as we were staying for a function the room was OK but we did not sleep well as the hotel was very noisy no sound proofing a constant loud noise from outside when windows opened. It is a bit of a maze long corridor and stairs our friends were disabled and had trouble with getting to rooms etc. I would not stay there if disabled. Food was good but small portion of the vegetable. I personally would not stay here again.
Rooms and shared areas of the hotel were fine. Food was good and the dining room is lovely. However there were some issues with customer service - room keys for my party and several others repeatedly failed for no reason. Despite having booked around a year in advance my party of three were given a double room and as the hotel was full two people had a share a double level bed with the third on a put-up which was obviously not ideal. The construction of the hotel means that doorways and corridors are narrow, and there lots of sets of steps, which means accessibility can be an issue, so not overly friendly to the mobility impaired. Bar closing times appeared to be a bit random and as far as I can see, based on whether staff wanted to be there or not.
I came here with my son as a last minute emergency. I chose this hotel as for the price it came with best facilities such as the swimming pool. I had previously stayed at a hotel the day before and I can honestly say this hotels swimming pool and facilities were 100 x cleaner and better. I ran into a few problems with the room at first as I did not like the one I was put in. When I went to the reception a guy called Mohammed was there. I can honestly say he saved my day. I stay in a lot of hotels for work and I can honestly say he has been the best service I come across. I also witnessed him with a guest in front who was having a moan but seemed intoxicated and he managed to calm her down and she seemed happy in the end. Any problems I had he was happy to fix efficiently he was very very understanding and co operative. Reading the reviews I agree that some of the rooms are dated but I seen a few and they all seemed clean from what I seen. My advice will be upgrade if you can as the rooms are very nice for a little extra money. The grounds are beautiful and staff are very good. I would stay here again due to the service of the staff I would just upgrade my room to the exec or suite
I was torn between 2 & 3 stars for this hotel. Had it not been for the fact that the grounds are beautiful, and the location of the hotel itself, then 2 stars would have been the score. The hotel is I assume, an old stately home of dome type, certainly some of the outer features would suggest that. The grounds are spacious, lush & relatively well maintained, as is the steam that runs alongside the property. Though litter & overflowing bins did blight the grounds somewhat. There is a fitness suite adjacent to the hotel, complete with a hair studio & swimming pool with a upstairs viewing area & bar. However, they are the good points. The room was large & the bathroom too, was a good size. So far so good. But the shower heads all need a good descaling or replacing, as this was affecting water flow - especially for the jets behind you for a "Japanese Shower". On the final evening, the water pressure dropped completely & I was left having to cup my hands to catch the drips from the shower, just so I could finish rinsing soap off. The toilet was also affected, so couldn't use that from 8.30pm till checkout the next morning. Finally, the beds & pillows. In short, they were dreadful. Springs could be felt when you lay down & pillows that gave no support to your head at all, just straight through to the mattress. For a big chain that's part of the Hilton Group, I'd expect far far better than what I received. Not sure I would return sadly.
Stay a couple of months ago. Free carpark is always a bonus. The room was nice and fresh. We had breakfast included in a great price as it was per room and not per person which always makes me smile. Breakfast was real fresh with plenty of options. Reception staff are very polite
Some staff are distinctly less than polite. At two points I was made to feel a nuisance for asking questions. Others were charming. Breakfast very good. Executive room not so good with mould in bathroom. The room was quite reasonably priced so I suppose you get what you pay for.
