Oldest passeng railway pub in the world.
Wonderful traditional pub, listed at the instigation of the local Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) branch. Built in 1828 in readiness for the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, it lays claim to be the world's first railway pub. Three unspoilt rooms are served from a central bar. These are well cared for by proud licensees. A recent innovation is the addition of a guest beer at weekends. Won a local branch award for a fine example of a traditional unspoilt pub in 2010.
