Maternity unit My partner and I have spent 3 days in the hospital since the delivery of our son and I can’t fault it at all. The staff are amazing, so supportive of my birth plan and all my worries/concerns have been addressed. The midwives and theatre staff are so friendly, kind and caring. The consultant Dr May I believe was absolutely brilliant at delivering our son, she made me feel so safe. I’ve been so nervous as I suffer with tokophobia fear of childbirth and I can honestly say this hospital is a 10/10 for the maternity unit.
Attended A&E today with my daughter who had an eye injury. Couldn't fault the staff-amazing polite, helpful Receptionist, Triage HCA, Carol booking in patients, catering staff, and lovely chap doing obs. Doctors, Nurses, cleaners, Interns and Paramedics working so hard yet always have a smile! Yes there was a long wait but this is down to the sheer volume of patients attending. Complimentary drink and water station most welcome. Well done to you all. Grateful for all you did and continue to do. Keep up the good work!
I was in QEQM hospital in Children’s A&E department yesterday. Nurses there called Brenda and Laura both were really nice to my daughter Christina and offered their help and they were really nice and helped me comfort my daughter while she was in severe pain. Well done both you ladies. And thank you so much.
Brought my type 1 diabetic daughter in New Year’s Eve as constantly vomiting for 20 hours. 12 hours later home. 2 days later same thing again. Back in hospital again for same thing. Put on a saline drip , nothing for pain or sickness until we asked. No doctor in site, staff very rude. Asked when she would see a doctor and got response does she want to see one then? Place is a joke. Would recommend people go to another hospital if possible
Maternity ward was amazing! After a 2day hassle with William Harvey hospital in Ashford where they kept sending us home while my wife was in labour as they “Didn't have a bed available for her”. We decided to go to this hospital in margate and within a couple of hours my wife gave birth. Amazing staff and looked after us really well! 10/10
Thank you to all the A&E staff yesterday for looking after my mum Mrs Bartlett the department was full to the brim all day and all through the night and yes it was a long long wait but she was well checked over with every test possible for us to be able to go home. Also the Ambulance crew were amazing spoke to me on phone to keep me up to date with what was going on thank you all.
My brother is autistic, special needs, disabled and obese due to anti-psychotic meds. His Achilles tendons are tight due to fibral convulsions when he was 3. Operations didn't work to fix things. They just traumatized him. He can't walk without a degree of discomfort. He's been sectioned at one time. Basically, he's had a hard, hard 32 years. Christmas week he couldn't walk around much and Christmas Day he almost couldn't walk at all. Despite all this we had a great day inside. Boxing day he had to crawl out of bed whilst wincing in agony. So, mum called 111 to get some help. Callum is 19 stones on a 5ft 9 frame. Even getting him to the car was almost impossible. Any bearing weight and he cried in agony. We didn't know if he had snapped a tendon, a ligament or worse. So we hoped for an ambulance, which we eventually received. The ambulance staff arrived administered oxygen and they slowly helped Callum into the ambulance. The staff seemed weary and a little impersonal. Given the time of year and the current strikes I was grateful they were there. I understand and support NHS staff's right to fair wages. We arrived at the hospital into the UTC unit. Amazingly, we saw someone almost straight away. Callum was only allowed one other person in the room with him. Immediately, there were three NHS staff in the room, all assigned to different jobs, all wearing face masks. Callum is helped onto the bench and the questions begin. I give his potted history and one lady examines his right knee. She didn't want to listen to my explanations of his history or what might have lead to this point. At one point I said "Did that make sense to you?" "...No, not really". There was no curiosity. Just this lingering sense that we had to justify wasting their time. Then, out of nowhere the examiner says "Why didn't you give him pain medication this week?" The accusatory, arrogant tone left me flustered and shocked. The judgement was so casual and unfiltered I had to breath before answering. "I don't know", my eyes flickering in disbelief. It was like a school teacher trying to dress down a 9 year old. And not out of care to Callum. It was because we had wasted their time. I decided to remain calm. Normally, under other circumstances I'd check someone's tone. I gave her the benefit of the doubt. But, the attitude continued. She rummaged around his knee joint some more before saying it was probably just a ligament or tendon problem. Great, thanks, I thought. She said "keep it elevated, give him some ibuprofen gel and some paracetamol. The problem should get better in two weeks". All said in a smiley, passive aggressive manner. I wanted some proper guidance. Some help for Callum. I tried to talk about his weight and the medication making his knee worse. None of them cared to listen. My discontent here is that the staff in general were not there to understand or facilitate. They walk with an imperial attitude that feels entitled to respect and grovelling. My feeling is this. My family and I have paid our NI all of our lives. I've barely used the NHS. But, if it's there I'd still like to receive it in a warm, calm, patient tone. Not this put-upon, rattiness. NHS staff are there to serve the public. They are not patron saints or anointed angels. They are people who provide a service of value in exchange for money, just like the rest of the working world. Part of that service is pastoral, in-keeping with a good bedside manner. I understand that the NHS is utterly broken. That's not my fault. It's the politicians. I just hope that things improve. Very disappointed by my experience at Margate Hospital.
I work at a carehome and was taking a patient to their appointment at Palm Bay ward, and there was miscommunication with transport back - but the staff here have been absolutely smashing! So polite and caring, and understanding with this being my first time assisting somebody to an appointment since I’m still new to my job, and honestly I couldn’t stop apologising because of how long we were sat in the waiting area, but the doctors and nurses & receptionists here are absolutely brilliant, really made my day, made me feel reassured that this wasn’t my fault and that they’re not annoyed etc. thank you guys so so much xxx
I recently went to QEQM A&E. Honestly, if you can possibly make it to another A&E, I would. Where to start? I am asthmatic and have been for some time, so when I arrived at the hospital for an asthma attack, I had a very clear idea of the care I needed. However the staff wouldn't listen to me and decided to prolong my care without giving me the treatment I needed, in order to give me tests that were nor standard procedure, nor pertinent. This disruption of standard procedure ensured that I remained in a state of discomfort for a longer period of time than necessary, and has caused me additional chest and head pains that can easily be avoided with prompt care. The first member of staff I came into contact with also proceded to tell me that I was exaggerating my symptoms when I visibly couldn't breathe upon arrival. I was eventually ushered into a room containing around six other patients, and we were all given different medications and treatments. The medical professional in question attempted to inverse two patients very different medicines prescribed for two very different ailments. I was shocked to be in a situation with a healthcare professional where each patient had to verify the treatment they were given, for lack of trust in the carers abilities. Regarding tha care of others, I witnessed some truely shocking things during the hours I spent at QEQM. For example one gentleman soiled himself in the waiting room because he was unable to get himself to the toilet the closest one was also out of order, and members of staff were informed both by the patient, whom I have no connection to, and by my party. However staff stated that he didn't need assistance with changing himself because he had fallen asleep, and proceeded to leave a patient sitting in his own waste for over two hours. I understand that the NHS has a merriad of funding difficulties, and I deeply appreciate the effort put in by some members of staff to provide the best level of service possible. However in my experience those members of staff were a minority. The rest need to remember that healthcare is founded upon humanity and competency, something they were lacking.
The staff were so friendly and could clearly see they were working really hard and well under extreme pressure. The 5 stars are for them. The a&e was extremely busy, the busiest I have ever seen. They were having to use make shift screens with sheets and trying to fit every bed in every space they could find which led to the loss of dignity for so many patients, was like they were having to play Tetris with the beds. Was quite an outdated hospital, think they are currently building an extension which is massively needed. Get those politicians in there to see what is going on, it's horrendous. It's so bad, it's probably a mix of understaffing, bad management, patients being there that really shouldn't be, people that couldn't get to see a GP and lack of social care. There are so many aspects as to why our system is broken. All these issues need tackling immediately!!!
