I’ve been a member for a few weeks and attended four classes, so while my experience is limited, it has unfortunately been consistently poor enough to share.nnTo start with a positive — the gym is well-equipped and has everything you’d need for a good workout. That part genuinely isn’t the issue.nnA practical frustration worth flagging is the class booking system. Booking less than 24 hours in advance almost guarantees you’ll end up on the waiting list. In practice, most waiting list spots only convert when people cancel around four hours before the class — which makes it impossible to plan your day around. For anyone with a busy or variable schedule, the reality is you need to book up to a week ahead just to secure a spot, which removes the flexibility that gym membership should offer.nnOn one occasion, I arrived at a cycle class exactly at the advertised start time of 18:15 and was refused entry. The way this was communicated was particularly jarring — rather than a word of explanation, the instructor gestured a throat-slash motion in my direction, in front of other participants. Regardless of intent, that kind of dismissal is not the experience anyone should have at a gym they’re paying to attend.nnMore broadly, across all four classes I attended, the instructors did not introduce themselves, engage with participants, offer exercise corrections, or provide encouragement. In each session, the instructor remained seated in the corner in between rounds of a circuit class. Whilst I understand classes need to run efficiently, the lack of any interaction left me feeling invisible rather than supported.nnI’ll be joining another local gym as a result. It costs more, but it offers the sense of community and instructor engagement that keeps me motivated.nI hope this feedback is useful. A small shift in instructor culture could make a real difference to those that value more than just gym equipment.
PureGym Cardiff is a great place to train, but the real highlight is Lucy. She’s friendly, motivating, and always ready to help. Her classes are well‑run, challenging, and full of positive energy. The gym is clean, well‑equipped, and easy to use — but Lucy is what makes it feel like a community.
I want to write a review about a great staff member in this gym. His name is Armand and wow! Apart from being absolutely jacked he is the nicest guy I’ve met in a while! I am an Olympic weightlifter as well as a coach and as someone who has been to many gyms not a lot of people understand it let alone want to take an interest in it and ask what it is and why people do it. Armand was super accommodating and interested. Asking me what it is, if I compete, etc. He finished by saying if there is anything that I need I can ask any of the staff! Now I know it may seem like a small thing but this level of customer experience is very widely not seen anymore and I think it needs to be brought back! Everyone who coaches or works with people need to use Armand as an example of how to give a good experience! Thank you Armand!
No-frills workout experience. Never gets too busy, always kind and polite from other gym-goers when you want to ask someone if you can pinch unused equipment from their current station. Staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Can't comment on the classes as I haven't been.
I have been a member at Cardiff gate for over a year and attending 4 days a week. 95% of the time, the areas are clean, organised and the Puregym team are always present on the gym floor for support. The 5% comes down to 2 things, 1st some members at times can be messy and leaving plates around which unfortunately the staff, myself and a few of the regulars find that we are putting plates back and unloading machines. 2nd is that it be nice to have room in the budget for a few additional plate load machines. Either way, i am comfortable, Happy and feel like part of the furniture!
