The 'grass roots' of local government, representing the local community, promoting Prudhoe, providing local services, supporting local community groups.
The Town Council sits at the 'grass roots' level of democracy in the government of the country. As such, it is the voice of Prudhoe, representing everyone living or working in the town, and promoting the image of Prudhoe to the outside world.
Funded by the local element of the council tax, the Council provides local, mainly environmental services: these include owning and managing the town's cemeteries, providing allotments and floral displays, and funding additional grass-cutting. The Council supports community and voluntary services and organisations, funding youth provision, sports and leisure activity, and groups representing all walks of life in the locality.
The Council works closely with other agencies, including Northumberland County Council, to ensure the well-being of all who live and work in the town, and to ensure that local concerns are heard and responded to. Above all, the Council exists to serve the community it represents, accounting for its actions at regular meetings which are open to the public and press. All town councillors are local residents, giving up their time to serve, unpaid, for each four-year term.
Contact details for the Council office are given on this Facebook page: councillors' contact details are to be found on the Council's website, along with information about its work, including financial information, and agendas and minutes of council meetings.
Finally, the Council encourages and welcomes feedback, whether by telephone, email or via its website.
