Princes Drawing School
"The Royal Drawing School is an independent, not-for-profit resource that aims to raise the standard and profile of drawing through teaching and practice. We are one of only a few institutions in the world offering in-depth, quality tuition in drawing from observation. Founded in 2000 by HRH The Prince of Wales and artist Catherine Goodman as The Prince's Drawing School, we became the Royal Drawing School in 2014."

I enjoyed the 1 week, 1 pose course immensely, our tutor Claudia Carr taught us so much with great patience. I appreciated how the days were structured, looking and discussing references and images covering different topics of painting, then continuing to paint for the rest of the day. Claudia spent time walking around the room to discuss each person’s work. The studio itself was nice, we were painting during the heatwave so everything was done to keep the class as cool as possible. I do think the lighting is a problem, and was disappointed to see that the school doesn’t have any professional lighting. Thankfully our brilliant life model brought in one of his own, I hope the drawing school will invest in the future. In summary, I would definitely attend this course again, it was really enjoyable.
What an amazing experience! Total immersion in an expertly guided journey. I thoroughly enjoyed ‘art and Minotaur’ with Marcus Cornish and cannot recommend highly enough. It was very interesting, I felt connected and inspired. Thank you.
Incredible School. Intuitive Teachers. Lovely atmosphere. My favourite place to be IN the whole World. I look forward to participating with you ALL again. Hopefully, very soon. I LOVE the Courses & the drop-in Classes THANK YOU, all, so much for everything you do For continuously inspiring us, encouraging us, making us fall in love with ART all over again, time after time. I am VERY grateful to ALL of you.
Wonderful tutorials with extremely thoughtful preparation to help you improve your drawing skills and understanding. Would highly recommend as a place to learn for all those who are interested and motivated.
Summer School-Evening Flux and Flow; Ink and Watercolour at The Royal Drawing School- a superb course based on a diverse range of historical, modern and contemporary art references . Inspirational teaching with a balance between structured tasks and more experimental directions. Stephanie and Nicola are exceptionally knowledgeable practitioners. Many thanks, Maeve Martin
I’ve been attending Royal Drawing School evening classes for at least one or two terms a year since 2015, and they are my number one go-to for getting better at drawing, and inspiring me to practise my art in a more focused way. It’s one of my favourite places to be and a great breathing space in a busy working week! Whether an experienced artist or a total newbie I’d say that RDS I’d great for anyone interested in buoying making art. I’ve particularly benefitted from life drawing with Sharon and Robert, who are supportive and kind tutors but will also challenge me to keep going and try harder; as a consequence I’ve seen a real evolution in my drawing skills and understanding. I’ve also tried printmaking, drawing with movement, with meditation, and at one point took a short sabbatical to do a term of intensive practise which was an incredible experience.
Painting: Landscape, Gardens and Natural Forms; Summer ‘22. The course was very well taught, but please, please spend a little time revising the Materials List so that it conforms to what has been described for, and then what is required to fully participate in, each specific course. Time wasted using the wrong materials, or scrambling to obtain materials after the course begins, is magnified for these intensive courses. Otherwise, very good.
The one week Graphic Memoir was a wonderful all immersive week via zoom. It was brilliantly designed to bring out the best in all those taking part and we became very much a group and it felt like we were in a space together.
I loved doing the 5-day summer course. Great tutor, lovely fellow students and a very creative, encouraging atmosphere. Will defo do it again
Had a blast doing the "World Imagery in Art" with the Royal Drawing School. Great tutors, learnt loads and had a lot of fun. Very good attention given to each student. Tutors seem to be super interested in everyone's progress and to "meet us where we are".
